Default GOP lawmakers want ethanol requirements reduced

By DINA CAPPIELLO
Associated Press
July 1, 2008

WASHINGTON (AP) -- More than four dozen House Republicans asked the Environmental Protection Agency on Monday to reduce required ethanol production this year, saying renewable fuel standards enacted by Congress will boost already high corn prices in the wake of Midwest floods.

"The Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) is a significant factor in the increased cost of commodities, which is causing severe economic harm for low-income Americans and livestock producers," the 51 lawmakers, led by Rep. Bob Goodlatte of Virginia, senior Republican on the House Agriculture Committee, said in a letter to EPA Administrator Stephen Johnson.

"The (Bush) administration can immediately impact the supply of corn that will be used for food and feed and lessen the severe economic harm facing millions of Americans," Goodlatte and the others wrote.

The Treehuggers are more worried about unproven climate change than people going hungery. The cost of raising corn is too great to be used to produce Ethanol and it's not as good as sugar based Ethanol. If we are to use Ethanol as a fuel, why not ease the import of it from Brazil? Or better yet, make it more affordable for ordanary citizens to make their on? We can do so now. Just check out the link below. I'd rather grow sugar for fuel than Corn.

Why, and I must ask, do these nincompoops we call republicans continue to look for the cart after the horse has left the barn?

There never should have been a fuel for food program to begin with, ethanol is a suckers scam.

I want the ethanol requirements to totally go away. The unintended consequences of this botched idea needs to go now before we do have people starving in the streets. Our children are grown and it's just my husband and I now. We eat less and less often. We would sure hate to have to be raising children in this current climate of save the animals and to heck with the people. People need to fear the environmentalists more than global warming. They will be quite content when homo sapiens are the endangered species. There is a huge difference between conservationism and environmentalistm and people need to get the big picture quicker than quick. But as usual, they are complaining loudly and voting for all the wrong people.
