Default The Need For A Closer Examination Of National Security

By Paul M. Weyrich
June 26, 2008

It now has been four years since Dr. William Graham, science advisor to President Ronald W. Reagan and chairman of the General Advisory Committee on Arms Control and Disarmament, and a distinguished panel completed a study of High Altitude Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) and its potential effects upon this country. The conclusions of this study are the most frightening I have seen concerning modern-day threats. Few have heard of it because the report has yet to be made public. The reason it has not been made public is simple: if EMP were understood by the American people, the next logical question would be what steps the government has taken to reduce the possibility of an EMP attack in this country. To date little has been done. When the American people realize as much, the outrage will be palpable.

This is too frightening to elaborate on except to say let's find ways to protect ourselves from such a disaster yesterday!

How many people know how to do their jobs in a low-tech environment? Efficiency will plummet, but could we still perform them? I'm scared to think that many of us would not.

If we were able to put a man on the moon with less computing capacity than a modern calculator, then we need to remember how we were able to function in an age without electronics. Until we can build enough replacements.

I never realized it would be this bad, but after reading all this story, I see where it could shut us down. If every one had a gas generator, they could have lights and cook, but no phones or t.v. we would have to revert to the 1930s.Find you a mule and a plow, a piece of ground, and if you can find some seeds, you can grow something to eat.I am afraid animals would not be good to eat, but I would kill a deer and find out.Smoked jerky can keep you alive

Preparation is the key, but too many Americans are "complacent" today. It was a good article to read and a real "eye opener"!!!!!!!!!
