Judge blocks Oklahoma illegal immigration law
By RON JENKINS
Associated Press
June 5, 2008
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- A federal judge on Wednesday blocked parts of an Oklahoma law targeting illegal immigration, saying the measures are probably unconstitutional.
U.S. District Judge Robin J. Cauthron issued a preliminary injunction prohibiting enforcement of provisions of the law that subject employers to penalties for failing to comply with a federal employee verification system.
The decision came on a lawsuit filed by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the Oklahoma Chamber and other business groups, who argued that the electronic verification system is voluntary under federal law and that employers should not be subjected to state penalties.

Re: Judge blocks Oklahoma illegal immigration law
How are we supposed to get any "teeth" in the immigration laws when the judicial benches are full of "dentists"???! No, "all" the responsibility should not fall on the business community, but they certainly could help! How about some boycotts of the businesses that are supporting illegal immigrants???

A better question imho is, "Why are the States having to pass their own immigration laws in order to get any action on getting the illegal immigant problem solved?" The answer, of course, is because Congress and the President have failed to protect our borders and continue to fail to enforce the national immigration laws that have been on the books since 1996.
Is it possible to impeach both the President and Congress? PLEASE, EVERYONE, VOTE! The Republicans need to get as massive a registration drive before November as the Dems. got before their primary. Support Rep. candidates, but where there's a choice, vote for the conservative candidate. And support grass roots advocacy for conservative people to step up into State and National races beginning in 2010! Maybe we'll have a good choice come 2012!

Business Owners: It's not my responsibility to ensure my employees are US citizens. The federal gov't should ensure that only US citizens are here in the first place.
Business owners make very poor citizens when it comes to immigration enforcement. I would do this voluntarily. $$$$ drives their position. Cheap labor at the cost of their neighbors.

Re: Judge blocks Oklahoma illegal immigration law
I think the better question should be is how can they claim that such a measure is unconstitutional when illegals don't have a constitutional right, so is the judge claiming that this verification system is some how unconstitutional to making sure that people are legal to work? If so, then why do we have to provide SS number or a drivers license when we seak employment. Perhaps iam missing the point.
saying the measures are probably unconstitutional.

Illegals had crimeNO. 1 when they illegally crossed our borders. Many judges do not get it; they do not have rights here in the U.S.A.

This judge needs to be "DEPORTED" with the 12-20 MILLION "ILLEGALS" on American soil!
