Default McCain Envisions How First Term Will Go

McCain Envisions How First Term Will Go - AP

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- John McCain, looking through a crystal ball to 2013 and the end of a prospective first term, sees "spasmodic" but reduced violence in Iraq and Afghanistan, Osama bin Laden dead or captured and government spending curbed by his ready veto pen.

The Republican presidential contender also envisions April's annual angst replaced by a simpler flat tax, illegal immigrants living humanely under a temporary worker program, and political partisanship stemmed by weekly news conferences and British-style question periods with joint meetings of Congress.

_ Democrats are asked to serve in his administration, he holds weekly news conferences and, like the British prime minister, answers questions publicly from lawmakers.

Kudos to McCain on his Iraq / war on terror stance but that's about as much as i'm ready to commend him for. Is McCain that big a fool to think he can do things in a non partisan way with the likes of Reid, Pelosi, Kennedy, Schumer, Durbin etc., etc. It seems to me bi-parisanship to Mccain is giving the democrats 95% or more of what they want and then screwing the conservative base over. I'm afraid McCain is just a typical belt way politican, sacifice your principals for political expediancy. Unfortunately McCain doesn't seem to have any conservative principals to abandon.
How did we ever get stuck with this little ill tempered moderate?

What a person says isn't always as important as what that person accomplishes.

McCain is painting a picture of optimism as opposed to pessimism but don't they all do that? Look at the disasterous, dismal, picture you get when you view what the Dems are drawing up for us.

Politicians will promise you anything to get your vote then give you the shaft of forgetfulness when your back is turned.

Power corrupts even the best and few can resist it's attraction. It takes a very strong willed person to be a good leader whether ill tempered or not. Integrity must prevail; too many in congress are void of this much needed characteristic unfortunately.

Who will come forward, stand up, and do what's right for the people? Zorro?

McCain had a good idea describing his first term.
I was sitting in front of the TV thinking about my never diminishing lists of projects to do in the yard and house this summer.

Non-partisanship is a Dem code word, meaning, "You compromise enough and we'll let you have a photo op with us."

Not to hard to see how John's term in office will go, more of what we have now and a lot of disinformation to keep you confused.

Amnesty is a big deal to this man and so is global warming, between the two of them and being compromised by the libs, you can expect to kiss good bye several trillion dollars in a very short period of time. Maybe a few more free speech rights too, after all, is not Conservative Speak a lost art for a RINO.

Your speech this am was not even close to getting a cigar from Real Republicans but you keep working on it. The time is getting shorter.......

Thank the 'progressive, country-club elite' faction of the GOP who despise conservatives almost as much as liberals do. They have planned and schemed to take over this party and exclude and minimize conservatism, and they finally found their nominee and pulled off their little coups. I am now convinced that McCain and the party heirarchy will bring upon us a defeat of monumental proportions and there is nothing to be done about it. This bunch is playing directly into the Democrats' hands, and those 'great good friends across the aisle' have nothing but contempt for them.

I'm doing the only thing I can do. Of the constant barrage of emails and letters soliciting donations for the party and McCain, I have not and will not give them one thin dime. The only political donation I've made was to the NC GOP after McCain criticized them for the Wright ad. It ain't much, but other than our discussions on the Forum like this one, it's the only weapon I have available to me.

No one can predict the future. At least some of the stuff McCain says is "optomistic".

As for working with the Democrats, I would tell them to take a "flying leap".

I guess I am "too conservative" for McCain!!

Ain't that the truth? I hope one day McCain figures out that every time he reaches across the aisle, he gets slapped by a jackass.

He really needs to learn to tune out Al Gore and La Raza and remember that he's a Republican. Or switch parties - now.

What a breath of fresh air this forum is compared to the one over at Politico.

I am with schillerbjr. But the elites planned it this way. Give the GOP nomination to McCain and Republicans will stay home in November. That is how they plan to gain another 20 seats in the House and 5-6 in the Senate.

I will skip over the POTUS section on the ballot just to vote to send Jim Inhofe back to the Senate.

McCain has reached too far across the isle too many times. I have no faith in him running a conservative oval office, even to the point of appointing judges.
