McCain casts himself as environmental steward
By GLEN JOHNSON
Associated Press
May 14, 2008
NORTH BEND, Wash. (AP) -- John McCain on Tuesday cast Democratic rivals Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton as latecomers to the environmental battle, saying he would be willing to debate the issue with either of them in the general election to underscore his experience with the issue.
''People will trust my stewardship not only because of my background and knowledge, but also my vision for the future,'' he told reporters during a news conference at a nature center in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains.
''They have never, to my knowledge, been involved in legislation nor hearings nor engagement on this issue.''

Re: McCain casts himself as environmental steward
He is so full of crap, I wish the RNC would find someone else to be the nominee for president. This man was shoved down our throats and now he is going to make the conservatives pay for every imagined thing that he thinks was done to him. He is a democrat thru and thru. God Help Us - we don't stand a chance.

I keep hearing that McLame is better than HRC or BHO but I don't see it. We're screwed no matter who gets elected.

I wish we could get another nominee, though like someone above said we have been forced to accept this person when he isn't a republican.

Rewrite history my $%#^. All he's gonna do is cost U.S. taxpayers tons of cash, screw up our standard of living and a big loss of our personal freedoms while empowering the thugs at the UN. Better buy a horse or learn to ride a bike even in a snow storm. This guy really makes me sick!

Re: McCain casts himself as environmental steward
McCain is not going to win. Obama is going to lose. McCain has very little support from what used to be the GOP base. What I want to know is what is the difference in McCain and the Blue Dawg, Pro-Life, Pro-War, Pro-Gun social Conservatives the Dems are running in local elections? I won't vote for McCain. I will have to vote against a radical like Obama. McCain is a Democrat more than a Republican. That is my view.

Then you need to do some reading about who Obama is.

He is a Republican. He's not a conservative. Remember how conservatives have been getting mad and leaving the party for the last 5-6 years? Well, duh. When only the moderates are left they run the party. Conservatives forgot a basic rule of engagement. If you desert the field of battle, the other side wins. In this case conservatives got mad and went home. Moderates stayed and now they control the party by default.

One big difference is fiscal issues. I have an article on Heath Schuler who is a sound social conservative but then he starts talking about taking care of people and you can hear the entitlement program cash register start ringing. I'll try to get that posted, Roberta. It's interesting.

Re: McCain casts himself as environmental steward
I don't think we'll have much of a shift in the Congress. I've noticed the Blue Dawgs side with the Conservatives in Congress on some issues. The "Pelosi" bills haven't a shot in the Senate. The DNC has taken a lot of risk putting Obama at the top o' the ticket. He will drag the ticket down & a segment of the Dems too. I don't think the Dem party is any better off than the GOP if you take it to the people. Everybody is miserable this year. The House Seats come up evry 2 years. I look for CA municipalities to take a shift towards the right, eventually, considering the state of that State! We will see. The States the MSM are ignoring today will be the ones they talk aboput in Novemeber. It's always the case.

Re: McCain casts himself as environmental steward
Ther several issues I don't agree with McCain on; but believe me I'm not falling for what's being dragged before me on the Democratic ticket. That's just a disaster we cannot afford period.

Re: McCain casts himself as environmental steward
The RNC needs to encourage McCain to announce his VEEP the first week of June. The MSM will have to cover it and it will take away precious time from the MSM to mend fences in the Dem Party. It will also steal thunder from the Obama campaign, no spotlight on him alone. Romney is still the best choice especially considering Obama's new "map", taking CO. etc. Romney will bring CO, Michigan and Mass. Pennsylvania will come on it's own. McCain can talk about his Comprehensive Immigration Reform if he does it suggesting caps & EMPHASIZE it is ILLEAGAL. Trust me, I've worked in Restaurant in Dallas long enough to know that most here illegally are in their words "waiting on the next amnesty". I also can promise 99% of 2nd and 3rd generation Hispanics want some kind of "reform" but are appalled at the "demand" by those who have broken the law. The RNC can't let the Summer start without some kind of noise and May is half gone. Put Romney out there, use this to attract Hispanics via "Reform" and make some NOISE! This party better get off it's duff now. You have to and sooner is better than later this sorry election cycle. PUT A VEEP OUT THERE, to neutralize McCain with Fiscal & Social Conservatives. Michael Steele would be the next choice, that would really get the MSM focused on the GOP and Steel is a good, well vetted choice. Romney is your economy man tho & don't know what Steele could bring? Throw that elephant in the closet, Immigration, in the public's face. The MSM will jump on Romney with that one BUT McCain is the nominee & could get a msg out via Romney. the RNC has to BUST UP THIS CAMPAIGN FILIBUSTER BY THE MSM & DNC
