Armstrong urges Congress to renew war on cancer
By ANDREW MIGA
Associated Press
May 9, 2008
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Seven-time Tour de France winner and cancer survivor Lance Armstrong is calling on Congress to renew the nation's war on cancer.
''It's time for our country to refocus and relaunch a comprehensive war on this disease,'' Armstrong said Thursday.
America's aging population and younger people who are less physically active than they should be make it more urgent than ever to find better ways to combat cancer, Armstrong said.
''This opponent is probably tougher than anything we'll ever face,'' he said.

Re: Armstrong urges Congress to renew war on cancer
It's not a disease de jour (except for breast cancer). DDJ's receive much coverage in the news, usually piggy-backed upon other tragedies, famine, war, storms and lots of money and attention are thrown at them. Meanwhile "back at the ranch" cancer (skin, CLL, bladder, colon, lung, and more, so many more) marches on its relentless killing spree, tragically touching millions of victims and families. LET'S CURE THIS NASTY DISEASE ONCE AND FOR ALL! Declare war on cancer and destroy it!

Re: Armstrong urges Congress to renew war on cancer
If $$$ were the problem, why wouldn't the billions spent so far have fixed the disease? If drugs were the problem, why wouldn't the drugs created up until now have worked to cure the disease? If lack of research was the problem, why wouldn't the myriads of massive research institutions around this country have cured the disease? So why fight a war with the same ineffective ammo? I would submit to you that fighting the battle using the same techniques is a waste of resources, time, and money. The first line of defense against cancer is the immune system, a system that has been compromised by a lack of proper nutrients in our foods. If we're going to be effective in fighting against this disease, then the first thing that needs to happen is the law which states that foods, dietary supplements, and the like cannot claim to cure, treat, diagnose, mitigate, or prevent disease conditions be reversed. Ron Paul has introduced such legislation twice, once in 2005, and once in 2007, currently HR 2117, and it has gone nowhere. Action needs to happen now in Congress to bring about that change. It's time to shift our focus.

Re: Armstrong urges Congress to renew war on cancer
A nice idea, but this Democrat Congress is more in the "MARXIST" mode.
