Default Navy releases McCain's military record

By JIM KUHNHENN
Associated Press
May 8, 2008

WASHINGTON (AP) -- From his five years in a North Vietnamese prison camp to his tenure as the Navy's liaison to the Senate, John McCain's Navy record boils down to a series of unadorned paragraphs that bestow upon him some of the nation's top military honors.

The Navy recently released McCain's military record -- most of it citations for medals during his Navy career -- after a Freedom of Information Act request by The Associated Press.

McCain was awarded a Silver Star Medal for resisting ''extreme mental and physical cruelties'' inflicted upon him by his captors from late October to early December 1967, the early months of his captivity, according to the citation. The North Vietnamese, according to the Navy, ignored international agreements and tortured McCain ''in an attempt to obtain military information and false confessions for propaganda purposes.''

Even though it took a FOIA court order for this to happen, compare this to the rather sparse record of the previous presidential candidate with a "record" of service in Vietnam.
If Kerry had been so foolish as to run again and have the extraordinary good fortune as the last time to once again be the dumbo candidate,McCain,a true war hero, with a verifiable service record, well, let me just say that landslide wouldn't come close to describing what would happen.
I still don't like McCain and I still haven't decided if I will vote for him.
This release will make it a little more palatable if I do decide to vote for him.

McCain agreed to this release.

Kerry wouldn't sign his.

Here's a refresher.
Quote:
Navy Contradicts Kerry on Release of Military Records

Navy Personnel Command FOIA Officer Dave German wrote in an e-mail to Judicial Watch that the Navy "withheld thirty-one pages of documents from the responsive military personnel service records as we were not provided a release authorization."

A "release authorization" would have to come from Kerry filling out and signing a Standard Form 180, something he has yet to do. A Standard Form 180 would authorize the complete release of all his military records. Judicial Watch filed Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests in August to obtain Kerry's military records.

Reading this article gives a pretty good insight to McCain's steadfast character and one who has great determination despite the most terrible torture that was administered by his captors.

Quote:
Although McCain was ''crippled from serious and ill-treated injuries,'' he steadfastly refused offers of freedom from those holding him prisoner. ''His selfless action served as an example to others and his forthright refusal, by giving emphasis to the insidious nature of such releases, may have prevented a possibly chaotic deterioration in prisoner discipline,'' the citation says.

How many of us would have stood up under these circumsatnces and still remain faithful to our country? Yes, there have been others duly noted; but McCain still has a desire to continue to serve in spite of his injuries and pain level.

Quote:
He was praised for providing Navy leaders ''with sage advice and sound judgment for enacting critical legislation during a period of severe fiscal constraint.''
Doesn't appear to me to be one who has lost all sense of reality. I don't agree with his immigration plan....but that pales in comparison to the war on terror and other important issues IMO.

I agree, Steelman.

My only issue with McCain is immigration.

I just hope and pray that he has come to his senses.
