Immigrants march in U.S. but rallies lose steam
Immigrants march in U.S. but rallies lose steam By Dan Whitcomb and Syantani Chatterjee
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Thousands of immigrants marched through cities across the United States on Thursday, but smaller crowds suggested their cause had lost momentum in this election year.
Immigration-rights activists have retrenched to focus this year's rallies on stopping workplace raids after Washington failed last year to act on reforms that included a path to legal status for illegal immigrants.
In Los Angeles, an estimated 8,000 people converged on City Hall. But the numbers were nowhere near the 500,000-strong showing in March 2006 that caught authorities off-guard and prompted activists to hail the start of a new civil rights movement.

*Amigos, amigos, allow me to be of assistance. You are marching in the wrong direction. South! South is the way to go, and then after a while you'll have more than enough room to march around any way you want and whoop and holler and demonstrate to your hearts' content. Oh, you might want to watch out for the Federales and the drug gangs, but other than that, knock yourselves out.

Maybe next year we will need to take up a collection to buy them some king-size Mexican flags.
From my perspective the marches were more effective when they had those in tow.

Thousands rally in May Day effort for immigration reform

CHICAGO (AP) -- Thousands of chanting, flag-waving activists rallied in cities across the country Thursday, attempting to reinvigorate calls for immigration reform in a presidential election year in which the economy has taken center stage.
From Washington to Miami to Los Angeles, activists demanded citizenship opportunities for the estimated 12 million illegal immigrants in the U.S. and an end to raids and deportations.
''We come here to fight for legalization. We're people. We have rights,'' said Eric Molina, an undocumented factory worker who immigrated to Zion, Ill., from Mexico.

I'm sure he means that they have rights and the American citizens do not. If they are so concerned over their rights why don't they go home and demand them - guess they are afraid they will be shot.

Well, I suspected the Democrats were pro illegal-immigrant so they could make them citizens and then vote Democratic. Maybe the Democrats have figured out a way so the illegals don't have to wait - people in cemetaries are still voting!

No marchers here. I think they are too afraid of "la migra".
VOTER REGISTRATION!?!?!?!? !? Isn't it bad enough we have to have ballots in Spanish?

People are afraid of being deported? Now why would anyone legally here be afraid of that?
I find it interesting that liberals tell us how bad this country is, yet lead the fight to allow those illegally here to stay. What is attracting them if this country is so bad?
I would still like us to adopt the Mexican immigration laws.

Go Home! Get in line and come back legally, then we can discuss your rights. Until then, you don't have any and I'll do my best to see that it stays that way.

Re: Immigrants march in U.S. but rallies lose steam
In the Loft, Bobby Eberle got it right. Read his commentary on this benighted AP article:
Commentary
About the word "reform": if you parse it, it literally means the same thing as "restructuring". But almost no one thinks of it this way, so I think we should start a movement to replace "reform" with "restructuring" whenever the MSM uses it in phrases like "immigration reform," "health care reform," etc.
