The Barack Obama Double Standard
By Doug Patton
March 17, 2008
Imagine in 1999, that a videotape had come to light showing the pastor of Texas Gov. George W. Bush's church making vicious, hateful comments about America and cruel, racist statements about Americans of color.
Suppose this preacher had given a lifetime achievement award to former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke, and had traveled to Europe with Duke to meet with neo-Nazi terrorists.
Now try to envision that the candidate's family had attended this church for more than twenty years, that George and Laura Bush had been married there, by this pastor, and that the Bush daughters had been baptized by him.
Picture George Bush titling his autobiography after a phrase in one of this minister's sermons, writing that the man was his mentor, and then putting him on the presidential campaign staff as a trusted advisor and confidant.

Re: The Barack Obama Double Standard
We've all been exposed to bits and pieces of the news discussed in this article however, when it's all introduced into one picture, we can see a very dangerous "element" regarding Obama that should not be overlooked by voters.
Being angry or upset over a single incident by a candidate is in no way to be compared to the "history" of the Obama's and their obvious inner rage and support of black radicals. As a "white" person I would never support or vote for a candidate with ties to radical white racists, so my position is NOT about race, it's about how candidates chose to deal with the "problems" facing racial issues.
Mr. & Mrs. Obama in teh White House? No thank you!!
Although I had not planned to vote for McCain, if he is running against Obama, he's now got my vote!!

Re: The Barack Obama Double Standard
As a lifelong Democrat who is always anxious to hear and read the viewpoints of Republicans -- people I admire as fellow Americans who are just as interested in the welfare of our wonderful country as Democrats -- I am appalled that Mr. Obama continues to enjoy such success in so many of the primaries and caucuses. I do not doubt his eloquence as a speaker. I do doubt his suitability to become our president. Should he manage to land the nomination, I believe many more negatives will be brought to light. As one who voted Republican for the first time when Mr. Reagan ran, opposing a totally ineffectual Mr. Carter, I would have no compunctions considering Mr. McCain should Mr. Obama become the Democratic nominee for president. Re: The Barack Obama Double Standard
Obama's astounding following is first and foremost due to his gift of charismatic speaking without substance. It's something many politicians aspire to but few have perfected as well as he has. Perhaps by listening to his pastor all these years he was smart enough to realize that in a political race too much "substance" in a speech wouldn't be helpful. Unfortunately he forgot to tell his pastor that before he put him on his campaign staff. And as for his wife, she doesn't strike me as the type who could be corralled into zipping her lip, even during the campaign.
Presently his charisma has earned him the following of 80% or more of blacks and that of impressionable college kids and liberal college graduates who wouldn't admit until now that they really don't like Hillary and her baggage. It has NOT convinced thinking Democrats, and that makes me hopeful.
There are some in my own family, and they cannot imagine voting for him. The way things stand right now, they plan to vote for McCain in November.
They feel that Obama is not only a novice but probably a closet racist. Certainly he has, and continues to, surround himself with racists, and
as they old saying goes, "If you sleep with dogs you'll wake up with fleas".
Right now there doesn't appear to be a flea collar powerful enough to help him. Hillary, for one, will make sure he continues to get bitten. But count on his cult-like followers to keep sprinkling the flea powder on him.

Re: The Barack Obama Double Standard
What worries me is that SO many people excuse Obama by saying he should not have guilt by association ~ but the problem with that is that he was going to this man's CHURCH, where you sit and supposedly are TAUGHT about God and your relationship with God.
If anyone went to a church, and that church told them to hate this and hate that, I doubt that they would continue to go to that church unless THEY BELIEVED WHAT WAS BEING SAID!
Rev. Wright counts on the fact that many are afraid to call him out, for fear of being called a racist - but Rev. Wright is the racist!
And if you are teaching racism at church, what is the congregation learning?
Disavowing what the Rev. says, but still sitting and "learning" from him does not make sense.

Re: The Barack Obama Double Standard
What surprises me is how Obama is in a state of denial on these statements made by his pastor of 20+ yrs. How does he claim that he never heard his Pastor (Rev. Wright), give any of those racist, black power, anti-American speeches while he was attending? He knows just as well as every person just finding out about his racist ties to former Black Panther's like Louis Farakan, and others. I'm glad to see that his "true" colors are coming out of the closet, and that his future as a POTUS is becoming dimmer and dimmer.

Re: The Barack Obama Double Standard
All of you who are against Obama that is fine but stop saying he played the race card when in fact Hilary started this race crap. As for his Presidency goes, i would rather vote for him but if he isn't the front runner and Hilary and McCain are the good ole USA will be sorry to have either of them for President. How much more does the caucasian group have to screw up before you all realize they have ran the bus into the ditch one to many times.
