Default Feds Cite Hassles if ID Law Not Followed

By DEVLIN BARRETT
Associated Press
March 4, 2008

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Homeland Security officials are pushing recalcitrant states to adopt stricter driver's license standards to end a standoff that could disrupt domestic air travel.

States have less than a month to send a letter to the Homeland Security Department seeking an extension to comply with the Real ID law passed following the 2001 terror attacks. Some states have resisted, saying it is costly, impractical and an invasion of privacy.

Four states -- Maine, Montana, New Hampshire and South Carolina -- have yet to seek an extension.

Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff argues that the law fixes a critical gap in security identified by the commission that investigated the 9/11 attacks: the ease of obtaining government-issued ID. It will also hinder would-be con artists and illegal immigrants, he said.

What part of "WE DON'T NEED NO STINKING I.D. BADGE'S" does OUR government NOT UNDERSTAND? "We the PEOPLE" have already voted on this - and we said "NAY"! I for one am sick and tired of the government telling all of the "sheeple" what we can and cannot do! There is not one thing in the U.S. Constitution that says anything about the government issueing ID Cards.......does this sound familiar?
"Show me your papers - commrad"????

It is a gross overstatement to equate this to the totalitarian governments of Nazi Germany or the Soviet Union.

MOST of these step are already being done and the rest SHOULD be done as one step on ensuring that only people with legal status are permitted to function in this country.

How would you expect our governments to ensure that the guy driving the moving van next to you is not Mohamed Ali Jihadi who is intent upon blowing up your children's school? Or that Manuel J. Immigrant isn't holding a job illegally, preventing you from obtaining work in order to feed your children?

We rail at the government for not keep us secure, but are not willing to allow them to take the steps necessary to ensure that safety. "You can't have your cake and east it too".

We don't live in the same world our forefathers did 200, 100, even 50 years ago. If we expect safety and security, we must be prepared to accept the concequences of our demands.

If the government really wants to secure this country from would-be terrorists, how about securing our borders? The government says its "trying to protect us" through a massive I.D. system; but, leaving our borders wide-open, defunding the Secure Fence Act and rewarding tens of thousands of illegal immigrants with jobs, food stamps, medical care and eduction just doesn't jive. Secure our borders, THEN we'll consider this. I think, though, with secure borders, we won't need Real I.D.

The truth lies somewhere in the middle of both of the later posts.

While I want government out of my business all together, I understand that my security requires extra measures. The problem I have with any kind of ID card is that it will not take long before we see counterfeit cards. So then what? Digital ID chips under our skin? Think I am kidding? Some parents are putting those chips inside their kids.

The only way to stop this is to take away their jobs and secure the borders. Illegals seeking a better life will go home if there are no jobs for them. That leaves us to deal with the terrorists.

Ain't going to happen with the current candidates. Bend over America.

It all sounds like big brother to me. Why am I constantly having to write Congress about every issue. Who out there is working for the American people, our democracy and our very way of life. I will stand in line whichever gets me where I am going. I have my passport, my driver license and I DO NOT want any more documents to invade my privacy. My records show that social security numbers were to be used only for getting a job. Now it is a requirement for everything. No More, no more please.

I just had to have my lience renewed, while in the DMV was a immigrant, don't know if legal or illegal, but they didn't have the papers to get the lience I am happy to prove that I am a citizen and have the papers to prove it. I don't mind, whatever it takes to keep illegals from getting liences or any other thing. These state need to get on board and UNITE for the good of America.

The Federal Government is trying so hard to control our lives, they don't have time to control our borders. Not only our borders are being neglected. They spend so much money helping every one in every other country, they are neglecting their own people. We have children and adults in our own country that are citizens with no health insurance or care, no food or housing, and little education. Big Brother needs to back off and take care of its own and let other countries take care of their own. Welcome to the Apocolypse People.

This is petition to sign. La Raza doesn't want Glen Beck, Lou Dobbs, Hannity to be able to give us any news about illegals. They are saying they don't like "hate" words. The Mexican Mayor of L.A Ca says they will kill us to take over America if they have to. They are killing and maiming our border guards. And they don't want our commentators to use "hate" words. They are trying to shut them down. Please go here and sign and pass on. In one of the clips a Latino woman warns us that they are a big power in our Presidential elections. She says Americans have proved by voting for the last three candidates that we want amnesty. And that the politicians are paying attn to Latinos power. If illegals weren't voting they would have a lot less power. This is a war folks and we better join up in any way we can.
