Default McCain Cold-Shoulders Warm-Up Host

By Michael Reagan
February 29, 2008

Although I agree with Cincinnati talk-show host Bill Cunningham on many issues, I have to side with Sen. John McCain in denouncing Cunningham for his behavior while appearing at a McCain rally on the candidate's behalf.

During his introductory remarks to the audience Cunningham repeatedly referred to Sen. Barack Obama as a "hack" and as Barrack Hussein Obama with the emphasis on Hussein, Obama's middle name -- a tactic used by critics who insist that Obama is really a Muslim.

McCain, who was not in the hall when Cunningham spoke, reacted angrily, telling reporters, "I take responsibility and I repudiate what he said. A person came out here before I arrived and made some disparaging remarks about Senators Obama and Clinton and I regret that. In my entire campaign I have treated Sen. Obama and Sen. Clinton with respect. I will continue to do that throughout this campaign."

Thumbs down Re: McCain Cold-Shoulders Warm-Up Host

Cunningham did what he was told to do and nothing he said was that terrible. If his performance was too much for McCain's tender sensibilities, then all I have to say is 'heavens to Betsy and golly gee whiz, that McCain fellow is certainly a milk toast.' Please don't let McCain read this, he might faint.

For those who saw the video of this event, you'll recall an enthusiasm in the crowd following Cunningham's warmup that's not usually seen at a McCain event.

This is one of the few times I'm in disagreement with Mike Reagan. I'm sure that if Cunningham had been told in advance he had to be a Caspar Milquetoast when it came to referring to the enemy (anti-American Dems), he would have declined the invitation.

I for one agree with Michael Reagan, and feel that there is a more courteous way to warm up a crowd then to sink to smear tactics.....I think by now, the whole world knows what Obamas middle name is, his connections, and all rumors spread about him by now, so what was the point??? It just makes the Rep look bad, and we sure as to heck don't need that.....I can't stand John McCain either, but I will take his side on this one, and holding my nose will vote for him....This is just MHO....

I used to like Mike Regan and always had the utmost respect for him until seeing him on CNN last night with Lars Larson. When his best case was "we need to follow McCain because he is the party nominee" I lost all respect for him. So we are supposed to turn up our nose and vote for a democrat that the Republicans put in place of a true Republican. We are supposed to abandon our principles and follow the party blindly regardless of the trash they throw our way as the candidate.

This to me is a shame because we are not the party of sheeple, we are the party of Ideas and concepts to make this nation great. What was that quote " I did not abandon my party it abandoned me" well there you have it Mike. I will be voting for the best candidate and that is not John McCain.

I would rather the Democrats put the country into turmoil so we can get it back in 4 years with a true conservative then to let the Democrat that the Republican party has thrown out there destroy it.

This is not a good idea, we may get more then you expected. Vote Republican and write, call or e-mail your thoughts, if we work together we can win.

Bill Cunningham, diid go a little over the top, but he did get the crowd warmed up.

American_made,
Are you kidding me. What kind of logic are you using; or should I say what kind of American are you? You would give this country over to the democrats (socialists, Marxists) just so you can show your dislike of the Republican nominee. This logic escapes me. I hear this from many conservatives, which I am most definitely, and it scares me. That's like saying give the country over to Lenin and that will show everybody how rotten he is. With Hillary or Obama we may not be a free country in 4 years. Wake up and use some logic. Do you really think McCain is as bad as Hillary and Obama? If you do then you are woefully ignorant. I have never liked McCain and never will but I will never take part in handing this country over to the democrats.
