McCain Retools Immigration Stance
By JULIE HIRSCHFELD DAVIS
Associated Press
February 28, 2008
WASHINGTON (AP) -- John McCain faces a dilemma on immigration as he works to persuade conservatives he's tough enough on the issue without erasing his historic appeal to Hispanic voters. Once a crusader for offering the nation's roughly 12 million undocumented immigrants a way to get legal status, McCain now says his first priority is fortifying U.S. borders.
The metamorphosis reflects McCain's intensifying effort to consolidate his support among conservatives, who deride the Arizona senator's past proposals on immigration as offering amnesty to lawbreakers, and bitterly resent his work with Democrats, including Sen. Ted Kennedy of Massachusetts, on the issue.
Coming off a primary season where his immigration stance was seen as a major liability and GOP opponents hammered him for having an overly permissive approach, McCain is remaking his image with an eye toward the general election.

Re: McCain Retools Immigration Stance
Lets see ..... the sources quoted in this article were:
Tamar Jacoby, the open borders shill for the Bush-McCain-Kennedy Shamnesty;
Arlen Spector, the RINO who pushed through the 2006 version of the McCain Shamnesty;
Trent Lott, the perenial disappointment;
and
Cecelia Munoz, Senior Vice-President of the rbidly open-borders National Council of La Raza.
I guess if they are satisfied with McCain's stance on illegal immigration, then I am too. NOT!!!!
Why not ask Jeff Sessions what he thinks?

Jack

Re: McCain Retools Immigration Stance
People of La Raza and other PACs of similar bent seem to be under the mistaken impression that we, The United States, owe latinos anything. We do not! The only think they should get is jail time or deportation if they are here illegally. Period, end of story!
I feel for the people who will be adversely affected by such a tough stance. However, the situation is not one created by the US. Rather it was created by the very people who crossed the boarder illegally. They are the ones with whom La Raza should be angry. Not American leadership who wish to secure our boarders.
If they wish to affect a true change, then they should direct their rath at the thoroughly corrupt Mexican Government who actually encourages illegal immagration to the US because of the enormous amounts of money sent back home. In stead of pocketing their tax payers money, perhaps they could work on improving the conditions which cause the desperate act of attempting an illegal boarder crossing!
There will be those who say that my comments are racially motivated; that I am a bigot. The truth is, I lived and worked in Mexico for 1 1/2 years; earning not USD but Mexican Pesos. I love the Mexican people and their culture. So much so that I married a Mexican. My children are part Mexican. But my wife came to be a resident of this country LEGALLY!

You are both SPOT ON with your assessments of **** McAmnesty!
I am personally under the impression that I will believe more of what a man does, than what he says. In McCains case, his past actions speak volumes as to what he will do in the future.
I suppose he figures that we're all too dumb to see through his gimmick of pandering to we conservatives just long enough to get our vote, then right back to the status quo and open borders and legalizing 12-20 million illegals.
It is said that a zebra doesn't change it's stripes. Mr. McCain will have a hard time changing his.

Re: McCain Retools Immigration Stance
So, if we don't trust McCain, who do we vote for? Certainly not either of the Dems. They'll hand the country over to the Islam Extremists, homosexuals and abortionists!
Do we conduct a write in campain and vote for Huckabee or Hunter?

Listen to McCain's speeches or look on his campaign web site now, and there's little mention of the fight to give illegal immigrants a way to stay in the U.S. lawfully.

'McCain is promising conservatives to do what conservatives most want done, which is to secure the border. Does that mean he will never go further than that to rationalize the system? No, but he doesn't have to say that,'' said Jacoby, the president of ImmigrationWorks USA, a coalition pushing for a broad overhaul.
|
We are witnessing the undignified spectacle of Senator McCain talking out of both sides of his mouth with ever more vigor. He is fighting years and years of his -- and his party's -- negligent border policy with mumbling that is cheap, vague, and very recent.
By the way, if you haven't noticed yet, "broad overhall" = amnesty.

When Tamar Jacoby says "broad overhall" she is indeed talking about amnesty but she is also talking about a WHOLE LOT MORE. She is the ultimate cheap labor shill and probably would be most satisfied with unlimited legal immigration.

Re: McCain Retools Immigration Stance
McCain is nothing but a left-wing, Kennedy clone who hugs the Democrats while he spits on conservatives.
Do not be fooled by McCain words. Judge McCain on his past pro-amnesty actions which include helping Kennedy write one of the amnesty bills.
Vote for McCain? You gotta be kidding. I might as well vote for Kennedy.

"Enforcement Means Deportation?" Damn Right!
Gee, a member of La Raza unwittingly speaks the TRUTH! I guess they can only manage to do that by accident - when they speak with deliberation it's lies, spin, and deception!
We know where "The Race" stands - or, rather CRAWLS! - on the enforcement issue; the bigger Q is where McAmnesty stands! Has he fired American-born-citizen-turned-Mexican-agent **** Hernandez? No. Has he tapped Tom Tancredo or Duncan Hunter as running mate or DHS secretary? No. Has he even bothered to state "Read My Lips: No Amnesty!"
Well, we know the facts: he's done none of those things nor does he have any intention of ever doing so. He'll put some half-fast "border security" measures in place for window dressing, declare the border "secure" and roll out an amnesty. That was Bush's strategy, and McAmnesty is Bush Lite - only older, flatter, and with even worse taste!
BTW, I guess GOPUSA thinks any Spanish-language names have to be censored note the **** in place of the first name of Senor Hernandez! Is the Spanish for John a dirty word?

Re: McCain Retools Immigration Stance
Although McCain continually says he "get's it" - he does not!!! In fact, most of Americans, immigrants and onlookers fail to see the BIG picture here. This immigration problem is not about race or any of the superficial titles they want to hand on the issue, it's much more basic and threatening than most would like to believe. IT'S ABOUT NUMBERS AND HOW MANY PEOPLE THIS COUNTRY WILL BE ABLE TO FEED DOWN THE ROAD. China has had to confront the problem of overpopulation for many years now and I find it stunning that American politicians cannot accept that there is a very good REASON quotas were a mandatory part of the process when it came to immigration in this country. The lower class of people in all countries are aLso the ones that repopulalte en masse!! Our natural resources are stretched as it is and we're going to invite more to overpopulate this nation and turn it into a 3rd word nation? GET A GRIP HERE FOLKS!!! I'd also like to note that if all these "outraged" illegal immigrants would take that same tone in their native countries they wouldn't have to be sneaking into our country to "hide" and threaten the American economy. My resentment of them is that the illegals feel some sort of "right" to break our laws and enter our country - they're wrong and some day this might end in another Civil War.
