GOP Candidates And Office Holders Beware
By Thomas D. Segel
February 15, 2008
If the GOP candidates and office holders don't wake up and face reality soon, the party will be able to hold next year's convention in a telephone booth. For the past six years those wearing the party brand name in Congress have ignored those principles that helped them win office. They have pandered to the special interests, lobbyists and congressional elitists to the point where grass roots Republicans have turned away in disgust.
Those who failed to listen to calls from a return to solid conservative principles now see the handwriting on the wall. They will not win reelection in November. Instead of admitting the error of their ways and promising to return to the winning ways of past GOP election victors, we now have a mass exodus of those who abandoned traditional party values. We are fast approaching three dozen members of Congress who are no longer willing to face voters and defend their dismal record of non-achievement.

Re: GOP Candidates And Office Holders Beware
Mr. Segel is absolutely correct. I am an unaffiliated conservative voter, and will not be back to the Republican Party until they start walking the walk again.
The RNC leadership has really failed to recognize the simple truths Mr. Segel expresses in his article, and we will end up with Obama or Hillary if McCain doesn't step away from his mis-guided opinion about amnesty.
I'd love to ask Senator McCain what part of "amnesty" does he feel upholds Article IV, Section 4 of the U.S. Constitution, which states:
"The United States shall guarantee to every state in this Union a Republican form of government, and shall protect each of them against invasion."

Re: GOP Candidates And Office Holders Beware
We have some seriously rocky road ahead, people. Picture our country with a democratic/progressive/liberal Senate, House, Presidency, AND Supreme Court. Really. Think about it. If it could happen, now is the time. If we're not part of the solution, we are part of the problem. If we sit out this election, and let the government in all areas go to these people, I fear we will never regain it. Something to think about.

Re: GOP Candidates And Office Holders Beware
Good commentary,
Unfortunately, few in Congress got the message made clear to them prior to the '06 mid-terms, and found excuses to blame for their major House and Senate seat losses rather than facing their error in abandoning conservatism.
They continue to ignore the conservative voter outcries in many respects, and have positioned themselves to repeat those losses in '08.
I sincerely hope they collectively wake up during the next 9-months, and return to the principles of conservatism to at least retain the current number of seats in Congress, because they will represent the ONLY firewall to protect US Citizens from the impacts of liberal social, fiscal and national security policies that are likely to emanate from any of the three remaining presidential candidates.

"Three Dozen" GOP Congressmen Bailing?
Well, if a substantial number of them are RINO's, that could actually be a GOOD thing! On a negative note, once John McAmnesty has his head handed to him by Empty Suit Barack Hussein Obama, he'll be going BACK to the US Senate. He lacks the common decency to resign from office. He won't run for prez again in 2012 because that's when his current term is up and he needs the senate seat in order to feel superior to us mere citizens and voters. Maybe the good folks in AZ will come to their senses by then but more likely the special-interest loot McAmnesty rakes in will enable him to buy another term. Only his death will spare us from the nonsense he continues to spew. Gee, they can bury him next to his soul-mate, Teddy Kennedy. The GOP better throw this bum out before he destroys the Party.

Re: GOP Candidates And Office Holders Beware
While the note must state that it is simply the opinion of the writer, certainly most of the people visiting this site would agree with what it says. My biggest concern is that we have no cohesive strategy to have an impact. Can we agree to write in a conservative, perhaps Gingrich, who has his own similar contract? Thompson? Tancredo? I believe that at a minimum we should join with Gingrich's contract. Can we get more suggestions from the group as to how to have an impact? I don't think not voting, voting for a Democ-Rat, or splitting our votes among a number of candidates are real alternatives. Although I have my preferences for write-in candidates, I would be willing to vote for any real conservative the group decides on if everybody will do the same. We are unlikely to win, but if the numbers are impressive it should tell the RINOS something. We should also only donate money to conservatives, and their PACS, and not to the Republican party.

Re: GOP Candidates And Office Holders Beware
The Republican party has become a complete failure. I am sick and tired of having candidates for office picked by the party and a few eastern states, stuffed down my throat and then I'm expected to vote for the chosen ONE. NO MORE!
Starting with this stinking election campaign and the liberal McCain, I will not vote! First time since 1972. I will continue to not vote until every American vote is heard.
This primary process needs to be dismantled. There should be one primary voting day throughout America. I suggest the last Tuesday in May. Everyone votes for the candidate of their choosing in their respective party (closed primaries). That way everyone has a voice and the candidate is NOT chosen because he has the most delegate totals.
I thank God for Mike Huckabee, who is at least TRYING to give each American a voice!
So if you all want to hold your nose and vote for Mr. McAmnesty...go ahead..and you'll still see this government and our party swirl down the drain!

Re: GOP Candidates And Office Holders Beware
GREAT article by Mr. Segel!
I agree with Mama Cat... To "sit this one out" is merely cutting one's nose off ....
I find it incredulous that we're at this juncture of facing a total control of this country by the erratic, idiotic liberal left.
I do not mean to offend my conservative brothers or sisters, but I'll be damned if I'll sit on my hands and do nothing allowing the liberals to waltz right in to the White House or the congress.
Supporting John McCain, the man, is not the issue. The issue is what McCain is "supposed" to be representing. I can only hope that as much an egoist as he is, even he can read the tea leaves and sense the disgust he has and continues to create.
It would serve McCain right if his own party left him twisting in the wind, defeated and severely disgraced. But that vengeance would be short lived after realizing the socialist liberals have once again hijacked the country.
I'm eating Rolaids like M&M's...

Re: GOP Candidates And Office Holders Beware
I’m not happy with the direction the GOP is heading in. I’ve even coined a term for what I felt, the Rebellious Right, and I’ve written a lot emails to congressmen describing how I feel.
Still, I’ve never been able to understand what benefit bolting from the party or staying home would incur for anyone but the Democrats. We are already faced with a real threat in an energized group of Democratic voters that outnumbers the GOP. Staying home just makes the possibility of a Democratic administration that much more of a reality.
You have to ask yourself. Am I so mad that I prefer Obama or Hilary as President? How would that make you feel? Would you feel that you had done the right thing when liberals are appointed to the Supreme Court? How do you like entitlement programs? Obama wants to impose an $845B foreign aid bill on the US and subject the US to the will of the UN. Feel good?
How much do you dislike John McCain, enough to allow things like that to happen?
Barack Obama didn’t like the path the Democratic Party was going in. His reaction was to participate and he is changing things. What impact would he be able to have at home? Maybe you could influence who replaces the congressmen who are leaving.
At CPAC, McCain sounded as if he had gotten the message. I can wait to see if he puts that into actions.
Naahh. Being mad is more fun. I’m going to let the Dems have it.

Re: GOP Candidates And Office Holders Beware
The point is: It doesn't matter if you go and vote for McCain or not. You still end up with the same thing. The party is corrupt. That's why they lost in 2006. Without a TRUE social and fiscal conservative in the top spot it will continue to lose and become irrelevant because it will not have any guidance or vision.
Do you really think McCain will stop making love to the left just because he's president? He has spent the last four years calling us social conservative names and now we're just supposed to bend over and grab the ankles? He can't even admit he's bald (hey John, lose the comb-over).
Unless we see a real conversion in the Republican party (Sign the pledge) then we might as well call it the Democratic party.
