Default Obama's Global Tax Proposal Up For Senate Vote

By Cliff Kincaid
February 13, 2008

A nice-sounding bill called the "Global Poverty Act," sponsored by Democratic presidential candidate and Senator Barack Obama, is up for a Senate vote on Thursday and could result in the imposition of a global tax on the United States. The bill, which has the support of many liberal religious groups, makes levels of U.S. foreign aid spending subservient to the dictates of the United Nations.

Senator Joe Biden, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, has not endorsed either Senator Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton in the presidential race. But on Thursday, February 14, he is trying to rush Obama's "Global Poverty Act" (S.2433) through his committee. The legislation would commit the U.S. to spending 0.7 percent of gross national product on foreign aid, which amounts to a phenomenal 13-year total of $845 billion over and above what the U.S. already spends.

A preview of what an Obama Presidency has in store for us?

Can anyone say "Marxist/Socialist"?

It's been said that the younger, more educated people are voting for Obama-mama. Considering the lefty-lib state of the so-called institutions of higher learning, I'm not surprised.

Scary does not adequately describe my feelings.

You know while i might not have a problem with this if it wasn't going into the hands of the UN to control as we all know how Corrupt they are. Oil for Food anyone?

It was bad enough that B. Clinton committed our troops and armed forces to the lap dogs of the UN during his adminstration.

So, young Husein finally has his name on a bill - and it's for the institution of global welfare.

Last week, we read about the new leftist government of Australia imposing a law on utility companies to purchase carbon credits for their sin of providing electricity that will now cost an additional $165 per year. By the way, they're getting these 'credits' from France - a clean country because 80% of their power is nuclear generated.

When are people going to wake up to the fact that all these idiots want is some sort of sustained global poverty - preferrably at the expense of America? How come all these moslems who are spending billions at the casino tables and building resorts won't be impacted?

This is also the week that Mexico's president is visiting to excoriate us for not providing more 'rights' to illegal immigrants from his pitifully backward country.

It wouldn't take long for Husein and his like-minded fools, laughing all the way to the bank, to bankrupt us if he's elected. He makes George McGovern look like a conservative.

this sounds just about right! dig your hands into your neighbors pocket to pay someone who doesn't want to help themselves to keep breathing and live beyond their means.

not much wonder everyone looks at us funny when we talk anti-illegals and believe that there are jobs americans won't do! they take a short look at OUR welfare system and understand why a lot of people believe just that.

I agree--SCARY just doesn't fit the feeling I have about him either! incredulous might come closer if it wasn't for the anger behind knowing just how stupid he and the people wanting to vote for him are.

I just pray that not all of our pols are stupid enough to vote this monstrosity in nor give it to the u.n. to handle along with setting the amount of tax.

The legislation itself requires the President "to develop and implement a comprehensive strategy to further the United States foreign policy objective of promoting the reduction of global poverty, the elimination of extreme global poverty,

How many countries in the world helped us out of the Depression poverty? Not one. Did it make us weaker? No. It made us stronger as a people.

Do we think throwing money at Africa will help them? No. Just as in Russia using their help to get more war materiel it will only help more warlords to buy more guns and soldiers. AND WHY IN HELL ARE WE SENDING MONEY TO RUSSIA? THAT'S JUST PLAIN INSANE!

I would love to see a breakdown of all the money we're sending around the world. Are we paying baksheesh to all the countries?

Will someone throw a lasso around Lugar and drag him off somewhere until he gets back into his right mind? I'll give him global poverty!! The poverty he should worry about is the poverty of his thinking.

So this is the kind of president the Democrats want running this country. If the Republicans don't get on the bandwagon and explain what it is that the Obama is trying to rush through congress with the help of Joe Biden I'll know they're all nuts, too.
