Long March in Store for McCain, Romney
By LIZ SIDOTI
Associated Press
January 30, 2008
MIAMI (AP) -- John McCain has emerged as the man to beat for the Republican nomination.
Only Mitt Romney stands in his way.
''We have a ways to go, but we are getting close,'' a gleeful McCain told supporters shortly after clinching Florida's primary. A disappointed Romney promised to press on.
The GOP nomination fight finally has boiled down to a two-man race after a year of volatility that made 2008 the most wide-open GOP nomination fight in half a century.
In one corner: McCain, the four-term Arizona senator and former Vietnam prisoner of war arguing that he alone has the experience, judgment and leadership to be a wartime commander in chief.

Re: Long March in Store for McCain, Romney
It makes me ill to think that McCain could be the nominee. Hopefully it's just the over 65 group that's influenced by the MSM that tipped the scales in Florida for him. Huckabee ought to drop out of the race. He and Fred Thompson ought to throw their support behind Romney. He is our only hope. McCain is a RHINO.

Soft-on-Crime RINO to Endorse Juan McAmnesty...
So, Rudy "Sanctuary City" G. is set to endorse Juan McAmnesty, eh? Gee, what a shocker! Just like the endorsements from Mel Martinez and other soft-on-crime liberals masquerading as Republicans! I don't often agree with Rush Limbaugh, but his words are sounding prophetic now. Juan McAmnesty will destroy the GOP. The American public have had it up to here with Bush's War in Iraq; either Hillary or Obama will mop the floor with this tired old man. Suppose he has the Big One, Fred G. Sanford style, during the campaign?
Real conservatives will sit out the election. The exceptions would be those willing to follow Bush over a cliff on the war.
Here's one thing the media - and even conservative watchdog sites like GOPUSA - have so far failed to mention: the total vote counts for each party. In yesterday's Democratic "beauty contest" with NO delegates officially at stake, the Dem's whalloped the GOP. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this has been a pattern even in traditionally Republican states like NH, hasn't it?
Now, does anyone seriously believe any Democrats are going to cross party lines in the General and vote for McAmnesty? Obama supporters are going to be so disaffected that they bolt en masse from the Dem's? I don't think so!
Once again, the GOP looks to be chucking its base "under the bus" a'la 2006. That strategy sure worked like a charm, eh, Mr. Rove?

Re: Long March in Store for McCain, Romney
I live in Florida and am sick to think that McCain coould be the nominee. If we had problems with GW these past few years, we are in serious trouble with McCain as the choice. At least Bush vetoed some stuff....McCain would go along with just about anything the dems threw at him.
And yes, south Florida is what gave McCain the victory, plus the establishment politicians in this state. Crist, Martinez and other Cuban-Americans' endorsements. Those career politicians are trying to hang on to their jobs. Well, after amnesty for illegal aliens and the so called "Property Tax" amendment, not one of those folks who have endorsed McCain will ever get my vote again!
John McCain has no executive experience whatsoever....zero, nada, none.... He'll listen to whoever speaks loudest and from the looks of things, the people doing the advising are not friends of conservatism.

Re: Long March in Store for McCain, Romney
The other thing that just flabbergasts me is anyone taking seriously that the NY Times has endorsed McCain. That alone should be enough to have conservatives running as far away as possible from McCain.....

Re: Long March in Store for McCain, Romney
If McCain is a Republican, then so is Ted Kennedy.
If McCain is a Republican, then I am a Martian.
It is a sad day in America when the GOP cannot offer anything better "McRomney".
God save us from ourselves!

Re: Long March in Store for McCain, Romney
McCain is scary, I will vote for Romney now. I don't think unafiliated voters should be allowed to vote in the primaries. Those Floridians especially in the Miami area are so stupid, at least my Dad didn't vote for McCain. The dumocrats want him to win because they know they can beat him. I am very disappointed with the people of FL. Hopefully the rest of the primaries will knock him out of the race. If he gets the nomination I will not support the Republican Party - they need to think about what the people want. Those people in FL believe everything the NYT says.

Re: Long March in Store for McCain, Romney
I am also a Florida voter and today is a Terrible and depressing day for me. How can REAL CONSERVATIVE REPUBLICANS vote for McCain?
It appears that a majority of Florida Republicans are FOR AMNESTY, Open borders ETC., ETC. If McCain wins the nomination it wouldn't suprise me if in the interest of reaching out he names Ted Kennedy as his running mate. I WILL NEVER VOTE FOR McCain!

Re: Long March in Store for McCain, Romney
While I wish to God McCain won't be the nominee, I will still have to hold my nose and voite for him. ANYTHING is better than HillBill or Obama and their concepts of nanny states!
With McCain, we may at least get some conservative Supreme Court nominees - do you think we will have a chance of that with HillBill or Obama? (Several of the liberal ones are getting up there in years!) That would be the worst for our country, for years and years after the Dems are out of office.
So, like him or trust him or not, I will hold my nose and not vote by default for the Dems...
