Default John McCain: The Geraldo Rivera Republican

By Michelle Malkin
January 23, 2008

After spearheading a disastrous, security-undermining illegal alien amnesty bill last year with Teddy Kennedy, "straight-talking" GOP Sen. John McCain claims he has seen the light. In TV appearances, he vows to put immigration enforcement first. On the campaign trail, he offers a perfunctory promise to strengthen border security and emphasizes the need to restore Americans' trust in their government's ability to defend the homeland.

"I got the message," he told voters in South Carolina. "We will secure the borders first."

But how can McCain cure citizens' distrust when his own credibility on the issue remains fatally damaged? He doesn't believe his own election-year spin. And he knows we know it. This is cynicism on steroids with a speedball chaser.

Thumbs down Juan McAmnesty: Face of Republican Party?

If the so-called "Republican" Party stoops so low as to nominate this old, tired, angry man as its standard bearer, we're finished. His only appeal is that he's tough on terrorism. Yeah, right; tell that to the widow of the Border Patrol agent who was just murdered this week! The American citizenry have had it with Bush's never-ending war of nation building. Hillary or Obama will mop the floor with this guy and he'll never see it coming! I'd vote for an empty suit before I'd stoop to voting for this phony war hero.

I just got a so-called "census form" from the RNC, full of push-poll questions and an appeal for - you guessed it - moolah! I'm calling them today to tell them: "No Way, Jose!"

Cool Re: John McCain: The Geraldo Rivera Republican

After reading her column, my mind was refreshed about all the super bad points of McCaca. But one that resonated the most was his hair trigger temper. For the life of me, I can't believe anyone would even think of giving him control over the "red box" or whatever color it is.

Scary!

Exclamation Re: John McCain: The Geraldo Rivera Republican

It seems that McCain and Huckabee could be called "Flip-floppers" in the true sense of the word. Where is the media when we need them? Oh I know, they are watching over the liberals, be they Democrat or Republican. It's interesting to note how they are putting all of their support behind first Huckabee and now that he is in trouble, McCain. It's enough to keep me from voting for either.

Angry Re: John McCain: The Geraldo Rivera Republican

This column needs to be mailed to every republican in the country! How stupid can voters be. Maybe we should have litmus test for voters. You know, something like you must be able to think for yourself type test.

I received the same survey from the RNC I filled it out with all kinds of comments in the margins. Won't help much but at least I vented.

I sent an e-mail to the RNC expressing my frustration.
I sent an e-mail to my senator, Mitch McConnell expressing my frustration.

I am to the point that I want to just throw up my hands and forget about even voting.

McCain, you have stabbed us conservatives in the back too many times. I'm certainly not voting for you in the florida primary and certainly not in the general election god forid you make it that far. Far from being a conservative you have gone out of your way the last ten years slapping conservatives in the face every chance you get. Any one that believes you have changed your opinion on securing the border or amnesty for illegals needs their head examined.

Angry Re: John McCain: The Geraldo Rivera Republican

John McCain, tough on terror??? Just because he voted for the "Surge"??? I don't think so. He is only tough when it comes to talk. When it comes to getting information out of the criminal captured terrorists for the safety of our own citizens he is a puff of smoke. No fire. No wonder Rush Limbaugh is hesitating to vote GOP if McCain is the top candidate. Pesonally I don't think he is but the Dems and the media want him to be.

The bright side is that McCain would be stronger on border enforcement than Clinton and/or Obama. Also he would build the fence prior to granting paid amnesty to 30 million illegal aliens. The bright side does remain rather dim.
