Can An American President Be A Muslim Apostate?
Frank Salvato
By Frank Salvato
January 11, 2008
As the primary season finally gets started the issue of Barack Obama's religion takes the stage once again. While there are some aspects of his religious affiliations that cause legitimate concern, the contention that he is a danger because he practiced Islam as a child, under the guidance of his father and then his step-father, is being overblown for what it is not and ignored for what it is.
The notion that Barack Obama is a closeted Islamist is akin to a black helicopter theory. He has established that he is a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ. While there are many questions surrounding the bigotry of this congregation's controversial pastor and the afro-centricity of the church's tenets, the fact remains the church is not a mosque and the pastor is not an Imam or cleric.

Were I Barack, I'd be more concerned about Hillary than the Wahhabists.

This is serious business. Would Hillary or Edwards pick this up? Or would their socialist 'political correctness' cause them to avoid this?
How about the Republican contenders (particularly the Republican nominee)? To subject the President of the United States to a fatwa-sanctioned "position" like this is a bad problem which goes beyond Senator Obama, into precedent.

That may be...but for Obama it's a good cover.

Re: Can An American President Be A Muslim Apostate?
My no longer secret bigotry is that a member of any extreme religion/belief is NOT a good candidate for office.
There is much to be said of extreme Christian sects, like snake handlers, in that they are outrageous examples of a common religion...Christian ity. Do I want a good person, with a strong moral compass as my leader? YES. Do I want someone who believes only 144 Christians will go to heaven and the rest of us go to hell? No, nor do I want someone rooted in any religion that demands that all must be subjugated to their religion or the infidel (and that's not a word applied strictly by islamists...it appears in our Bible here and there, as well) must die. We have freedom of religion, here, and I want it to stay that way. Extremists of most beliefs seem to demand that everyone conform to their beliefs and theirs only.
I want NO extremist of any religion holding office for fear that their individual beliefs may be made part of our current laws.
Loyola, a Catholic saint, and founder of the Jesuits, an order of monks, and priests, said, "give me a child at birth, and he will be mine, forever, by age 7." That holds true of any religion. I sincerely doubt that Obamamamamama doesn't have beliefs rooted in islam, but they are carefully hidden. He was islam's until a late age, I doubt that islam no longer has any sway over him.
Shame on me, eh?

No. We don't practice radical political correctness here.

Anyone who is a candidate for president, regardless of their "religion", who will not follow the protocol of our law, when being sworn into a political office, who stands mutely by when our national anthem is played not covering the heart, who's background is suspect at best, makes promises he hasn't got a clue how to keep, isn't even dry behind the ears when it comes to experience, and expects his charisma, outward appearence, oratory skills, hearty hand shake, smiles with a mouthful of shiny teeth, will give him the necessary strength and courage to face up to the awsome task of being the president of the United States won't cut it IMO.
