Default Global Warming Bill Advances in Senate

By AP STAFF
Associated Press
November 2, 2007

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Lawmakers took the first step Thursday on a bipartisan global warming bill that would impose mandatory cuts in greenhouse gases from power plants, industrial facilities and transportation.

Sen. Joe Lieberman, I-Conn., pushed the legislation out of his global warming subcommittee by a 4-3 vote, agreeing to a number of changes aimed primarily at garnering the needed majority to advance it.

The bill calls for setting limits on carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases that are emitted from power plants, refineries, factories and motor fuels. Polluters could exceed the limits by buying credits from companies whose emissions are under their allowable ceiling.

Lieberman called the vote ''potentially a landmark event, the moment at which the United States finally began a serious fight against the threat of unchecked global warming.''
Yeah, it's a "land mark event" alright...killing the goose that lays the golden egg, free interprise, loss of jobs, wages, freedom, purchasing power, competition, trade, while all the other countries are racing way ahead by not observing the rules which are supposed to protect us from global warming. Ridiculous! Assuming it corrected "Global Warming" what are you going to do with millions of people standing around with nothing to do except breath cleaner air?
Got any ideas?

Why don't they stop wasting time on this crap and build a few new nuclear power plants, start drilling off-shore and stand up to big oil and fund research into real alternate fule sources and more efficient autos that offer both size and efficiency that most consumers want. They need to tell Chicken Little Al that the sky isn't falling and get on the stick!

No surprise that Lieberman is pushing this. He went over to the dark side when Gore tapped him for V.P.

This will be Kyoto without the treaty. It's another attack on the American Dream but too many believe in it and it probably can't be stopped.

Is this a joke, or what?

How do you measure the over and under, and how much do the units cost? Talk about "smoke and mirrors."

Sounds like a liberal scam to me.

If the concerns Congress is legislating against are real, then this is useless as a method of dealing with it. If the concerns are not real, then they do not justify the legislation. It is therefore necessary to conclude, just like the other posters, that "fighting global warming" is a pretext for an attack on America, the American standard of living and everything else that makes this country exceptional. All it will do is export manufacturing to countries that are far dirtier per unit of production. We will end up with a dirtier, poorer world and LOTS of greenhouse gases.

Never forget Lieberman is a liberal first and foremost. The Clean Air Act has been around since the 70s and industry continues to reduce all kinds of emissions; although CO2 is not a priority pollutant. Lieberman's bill is just another burden on industry that will be passed on to the consumer. The thing is CO2 isn't a cause of global gorming; unless you believe the lies of the most recent Nobel Prize winner.
