Diversity Doesn't Need to Be Forced
By Deneen Borelli
August 27, 2007
Supporters of racial preferences think the U.S. Supreme Court's recent rejection of preferences in school admissions heralds the death of diversity in America. Critics of the Court's promotion of race-neutral standards believe enforced diversity diminishes discrimination and is necessary for black children to get a sound education.
If these people looked at the world outside of their political prism, they would see diversity is all around us.
That is why it is unfortunate that they still consider the 1950s idea of government-mandated school diversity as the primary means of achieving equal opportunities for blacks. This misplaced emphasis ignores the big picture gains in our society and distracts from the primary goal of providing kids with a quality education.

Re: Diversity Doesn't Need to Be Forced
Well, I'm SICK of diversity! Why would our educational system want to point out the differences in all of us? All this diversity garbage actually promotes divisiveness!
I think it's time we concentrated on what we have that is alike! We're all more alike than we are different! Strip the skin off and then internal parts are all alike!
And our greatest differences are more of personality than any physical characteristic you can think of.
It's time to forget who's black, white, yellow or brown and just concentrate on teaching!
Diversity doesn't need to be forced! It simply needs to be forgotten!!!!!

Re: Diversity Doesn't Need to Be Forced
Personally, I don't think that the call for diversity has anything to do with diversity... it has to do with (like most things political these days) MONEY.
There's alot of money in the propogation of "affirmative action" and "desegregation of schools"... from research to programs to "fix it"... MONEY, MONEY, MONEY. And bureaucracies GALORE!
Just like global warming isn't about conservation, "diversity" isn't about lifting up minorities.

Re: Diversity Doesn't Need to Be Forced
The major problem with "diversity" is that it is constantly calling attention to differences instead of letting people just be people and see each other for who they are... It forces people to see the color differences instead of ignore them.
The next problem is that it takes away responsibility and allows for excuses for failure. It lets people put themselves in victim catagories even when not deserved.
My ex husband was in the Army and was stationed in Hawaii. We went to a friend's house and there were a bunch of people there. There was a black guy, who spent the evening telling anyone who would listen about how everything that was wrong in his life was because he was black. He was obnoxious, rude, unkind, etc. The kind of person who it wouldn't matter what color he was you wouldn't want to be around. He had a really bad attitude and turned people off. He had jumped on the victim train.
Next we went to Colorado. In the apartment next to us was a black couple. They came over for one of our children's birthday parties. He was a very nice and well spoken man. The kind of man who you could talk to and not even notice the color of his skin. He wasn't American. He was from one of the islands. I think he was from Jamaica. His attitude was completely different.
You can often see a difference in attitude and behavior between those who ride the diversity train and those who don't.
Real Deal... Money always plays a major part in these things or they wouldn't do it. Always follow the money trail. Where liberals are concerned, no matter what the agenda or ideal, there is always a money trail... and it always involves the tax payers and somewhere along the line it lines their pockets. They are always going to get something out of it... and they will also be striving for power somewhere.
Money and power, in one order or the other... that is what it is always about.
