Fred names a new manager
The Politico
Fred Thompson's campaign-in-waiting announced this morning that they have hired Bill Lacy as campaign manager.
"Lacy will have full operational control of the Friends of Fred Thompson committee and will report directly to Thompson," says the release.
Lacy is taking a leave from the Dole Institute of Politics at Kansas University where he is currently director. He worked in the Reagan administration and served as a top strategist in Bob Dole's '88 and '96 campaigns. He knows Thompson from coming to Tennessee to help win the '94 Senate race.

Re: Fred names a new manager
Although I'm a strong supporter of Thompson, I'm somewhat concerned over so many of his staffers having ties to Bush. Regardless what any of us on the forum think of Bush, the pandercrats will take that fact and blow it all out of proportion, leaving the impression Thompson will be "Bush III."

Re: Fred names a new manager
I am not as concerned that many of staffers have ties to Bush, it just shows that they are Republicans. A candidate is not going to weighed down by his staffers (Donna Brazile and Bob Shrum did not cause Al Gore and John Kerry to lose), except if those staffers give bad advice and lead a campaign in a bad direction. I am concerned with Fred being prepared to declare his candidacy, and then going right into a debate a few days later. The other candidates have had months of debates and are in form. Fred may look awkward up there and not ready for prime time right out of the gate. He has to be extra prepared!!

Not so fast! There were several polls which showed Brazile's association with goofy Gore did lead to a loss of support. I believe one of the polls was by respected pollster Rasmussen.

Fred Thompson lighting into those guys would be like Reagan debatiing GWB.
