Danny Glover, Hugo Chavez Ink $20 Million Movie Deal
By Monisha Bansal
CNSNews.com Staff Writer
May 24, 2007
(CNSNews.com) - Actor Danny Glover has agreed to make two movies financially backed by the Venezuelan government, but U.S. officials are calling the deal "tainted."
The Venezuelan National Assembly is giving the national production company, La Villa del Cine, $19.7 million to make the two films. The first, which Glover will direct, is about Francois Dominique Toussaint-Louverture, a Haitian independence leader. The second is a film adaptation of the Gabriel Garcia Marquez novel, "The General in His Labyrinth," about Simon Bolivar.

Re: Danny Glover, Hugo Chavez Ink $20 Million Movie Deal
Why doesn't Danny Glover just give up his American citizenship, move to Venezuela, become Chavez's blood brother & leave the USA alone! Oh, I forgot, he became rich off of this country. He would be just another peon, if he had grown up in Venezuela.

According to Venezuela's state-run television station, TeleSur, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez started La Villa del Cine in 2006 to combat "the dictatorship of Hollywood" and spread the story of Latin America.
|
"to combat the dictatorship of Hollywood!!"
THAT'S RICH!!
You don't need to spread the story of Latin America... we are hearing it first hand from your "refugees" Hugo... I knew this wasn;t made for Venezuelan audiences... I predict fawning at the Cannes and Sundance Film Festivals, followed by campus showings, then aired on Sundance Channel... and don't forget, the Oscars!
Quote:
I think that [Glover is] just a pawn in Hugo Chavez's propaganda machine," Rep. Connie Mack (R-Fla.) told Cybercast News Service. "It's sad. What I don't get is why a well-known American, let alone any American, would be part of a propaganda machine with Hugo Chavez, and that's clearly what he's doing.
"They'll live in this country and enjoy the freedoms that we all enjoy," Mack said. "We have men and women around the world fighting for and defending our freedom, yet they'll go and support a communist dictator in Venezuela."
|
Yeah, well, according to Hugo it's cuz he (Glover) wants to help combat the "Hollywood dictatorship"... OMG... can't stop laughing at that one...
Quote:
The congressman lashed out at Glover for turning "to an avowed enemy of the United States - and someone who in his own right has snuffed out dissent and free speech - for movie financing smacks of radicalism and opportunism run amuck," Mack said. "That's [$19.7 million] he could spend on helping the people of his country get out of poverty."

Sounds like Hollywood and Hugo make a great partnership.... coming soon: HUGOWOOD!! (Ooops, it's already here...)

Re: Danny Glover, Hugo Chavez Ink $20 Million Movie Deal
So Danny Glover, who even the lefty studio bosses in Lala Land found too toxic, has final found work wasting money Hugo Chavez should put to better use either expanding his influence in Latin and Central America or providing low cost home heating oil to America's "poor."
Hell, I'm even a fan of Gabriel Garcia Marquez, but Danny and Hugo are filming the wrong book. The Autumn of the Patriarch is a spellbinding look at the average decripid Latin dictator of his day. Some things never change.

Danny Glover, just like Harry Belafonte is a Communist, so of course he, like Belafonte, runs to dictators for everything.
First of all they want everyone to be the same (except them). It never occurs to communist lovers that they're going to be as poor as everyone else. They always think they will be at the top because they're so wonderful.
Secondly, same as the above!
Thirdly, same as the above.

Re: Danny Glover, Hugo Chavez Ink $20 Million Movie Deal
The list of Hollywood-types that haven't disgraced themselves in one way or another over the past few years, grows shorter almost every day.
One is left to speculate how Danny Glover, actor, activist and renown "intellectual", feels when just one week after his embrace and speach of complete support for Hugo Chavez, his boy Hugo decides to shut down a TV station for not sharing his views.
My guess is Danny either hasn't read about it yet or thinks the TV station had it coming for dissing his man, Dictator Hugo Chavez. Oh, has Carter made the treck to Venezuela recently to show his continuing support for the "democratically" elected Hugo "the Venezuelan strong man" Chavez??
