Default Queen urged to apologize for slavery

By UPI Staff
United Press International
April 30, 2007

LONDON (UPI) -- Britain's Queen Elizabeth is being urged to apologize for the slavery of Africans and the slaughter of American Indians when she visits Virginia this week.

The queen is to visit Virginia to mark the 400th anniversary of the first English settlement at Jamestown, the Times of London reported Sunday.

Africans were used as indentured servants in English settlements as early as 1619 and later were codified as chattel property under Virginia law.

The time we live in is rapidly become rediculous and over legalistic. It appears we will now have to apologize for being born with a tag hanging around our neck for life stating: "Forgive me for being born...if I make any mistakes during my lifetime, that might offend you or otherwise cause harm, please choose two options. (1) Please forgive me as you would want to be forgiven, (2) Or sue me and take your chances."

Okay, hasn't this apologizing thing gone on long enough? Isn't it getting to sound rather hollow? If there are certain groups that are going to be apologized to then why isn't everyone in the entire world due an apology? At one point in time every nation had done something wrong to someone else in the world. Why should any "select groups" be afforded this sentiment and not others?(Try the Irish-AMerican, the Native AMericans, etc. DOn't they "deserve" something?) It all boils down to personal accountability. WHere has it gone? Where is self-pride, self-respect, self-motivation? What's wrong with taking responsibility for your own life instead of having someone from somewhere else "apologize" to certain groups of people, and allow certain privileges to accompany that nationality solely. The energy it takes to "apologize" to such large masses should be focused on what the real needs are...encouragement to make one's own accomplishments - not be dependant on others to give whatever handouts may come with the "apology".

And immediately after HER apology, President Bush will apologize to her for the abject idiocy that has gripped this nation.
At the same time, Reverends Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton will serve the queen with papers for reparations from England on behalf of ALL American Blacks, whether they descend from slaves, or not. (Thier "cut" being only 3/4 of the amount demanded... cuz they care so much for "their people"...)

I may have to I've never seen so much P.C. crowded into one little article.

Elizabeth II is being required to apologize for slavery? I don't recall any of the royal family ever endorsing slavery in the past or the present.

Whatever happened to treating guests in your country as guests?

The survivors of the VT massacre? Why couldn't they just say she was speaking to the student body? There were thousands who survived. And why is she speaking there anyhow? Is she supposed to be some kind of apologist for mass murderers?

This country is going ier than a bunch of junk yard dogs.

Oh, the idiocy!

Is there anyway we can make her apologize for Britain being a nation and the need to study Agricola and write a ridiculous paper about him to get a college degree? I mean, that affects us all --- black, white, native American (whatever that means) & Asian!

Oh, but maybe that wasn't her fault since he was a Roman general involved in the conquest of Britain. But then again, if Britain hadn't had the audacity to exist, Agricola couldn't have conquered the place, now could he!

Besides, I thought he was a soft drink for farmers until I found out he kind of rhymed with Ricola!

Somehow I think we might want to give England some credit for pretty much bringing civilization to the planet! But the Queen had nothing to do with it either way --- bad or good!
