Default Audit: IRS loses 490 computers

By UPI Staff
United Press International
April 6, 2007

WASHINGTON (UPI) -- A government audit in Washington found that the personal information of more than 2,000 taxpayers has been compromised by lost or stolen computers since 2003.

The audit, conducted by the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration, found that 490 Internal Revenue Service computers were lost or stolen in 387 incidents and the majority of the incidents were not reported to the IRS computer security office as regulations require, USA Today reported Thursday.

Thank you for this info, Terri. Outside of the logical (and Constitutional) need for the taxpayers to fund the military, I don't see many other gov't adventures that should be funded. At the very worst, I want an incompetent state gov't where I can at least slap my local official if s/he decides to screw things up.

Aren't these the same kinds of government bureaucrats that screwed up the healthcare system for veterans, lost computers with veteran information, loose billions of dollars each year of the money allocated to them? And our politicians are considering turning over health care to the same kinds of incompetent morons as those that take our money to pay for it all? I think I'm getting sick, thank God I don't have to go to a government "healthcare" program yet!

Sounds like typical government "efficacy" to me.I guess you get what you overpay for, when it comes to government employees...
