Tancredo To Form Exploratory Committee For Presidential Run
The Denver Channel
WASHINGTON -- Colorado Republican Rep. Tom Tancredo, an outspoken opponent of illegal immigration, said Tuesday he will form an exploratory committee this week for a possible presidential campaign but does not plan to give up his House seat.
After making a weekend trip to Iowa, home to the first nominating caucus in January 2008, Tancredo said voters there told him other presidential candidates don't share their views.
"They believe that there is a void in this race that none of the other candidates are willing or able to fill," he said.

Hmmm...doesn't Duncan Hunter fill the immigration void?

Tancredo makes more sense than any publican who has made noises about running. At lease he recognizes a candidate can not run on a single issue.

Both Tancredo and Hunter are very much "Americans First" so it may be difficult to get outside soft money from Mexico, China, India, Saudi Arabia etc. for campaign contributions.

I'd vote for Tancredo in a nanosecond, but I don't think he could win in the election-- would have it in the bag.

Immigration activist says ordinary Americans support Tancredo
By Chad Groening

Quote:
(AgapePress) -- A spokeswoman for the Washington, DC-based Federation for American Immigration Reform believes U.S. Congressman Tom Tancredo will have the support of a lot of ordinary Americans now that he has officially announced his intention to form a 2008 Presidential exploratory committee.
Tancredo recently made his announcement in Iowa, the site of the first U.S. presidential caucuses next year. The Colorado lawmaker has said on several occasions that he would only enter the race for the White House if none of the other GOP candidates made illegal immigration the major issue of the campaign.

Re: Tancredo To Form Exploratory Committee For Presidential Run
I disagree with Colorado Conservative. Not on his main point, obviously Republicans must work together. Rather, I disagree that what the country needs is either party working to make sure their guy gets elected. Instead, I suggest that we all work to see that the "right" person get elected. Tom Tancredo is the man for the job. Certainly corporations won't fund his campaign, but isn't that part of the problem now? If we as American's feel so disempowered, or feel so partisan that we would vote for the wrong person, rather than the right person for the job, well ladies and gentlemen; this explains last Novembers Ass whipping at the polls. Corporations may be able to throw money at campaigns, but they can't vote. If we only accept and support those candidates that corporations and unions will fund, then we have no hope of ever regaining control of our nation. No candidate, even with all the money in the world, can hope to wind if America's voters don't support them at the polls. In November, conservatives, Republicans, Independents, moderates of every stripe stayed home in droves, avoided the polls. The did this mostly because this administration and Republican leadership ignored our views, values and concerns. Immigration amnesty and Guest worker programs scuttled the Republican party this last election, and Bush and GOP leadership are ramping up for more of the same! I've been a staunch Republican all my life, but when confronted with candidates where there wasn't a dimes worth of difference, is it any wonder voters just didn't try? There is no secret here. Citizens, voters, taxpayers, the rand and file Republicans have made it abundantly clear that we are against any sort of immigration or guest worker programs. We want our borders secured, our sovereignty acknowledged, and an overall reduction in all forms of immigration; legal as well as illegal. If GOP candidates ignore our views, they do so at great peril to their political career and to the Grand Old Party itself!
And now, there's even talk of making Senator Mel Martinez, noted corporate shill and lackey for mass immigration lobbyists and cheap labor interests, Chairman of the GOP!

Re: Tancredo To Form Exploratory Committee For Presidential Run
ncfm, I agree with you!! They keep saying that the Republicans stayed home in Nov because of the Iraq War, well, I know quite a few that stayed because of Illegal Immigration and Bush's stance on it. I voted because my Representative is against Bush's plan on it. People are upset with Bush because of it. The Republicans better get the real reason they lost in Nov in their thick skulls.

Re: Tancredo To Form Exploratory Committee For Presidential Run
All R's who stayed home or voted dem should have THEIR thick skulls examined (jmnsho). They disgust me.
They are the reason I have to look at and every stinkin' night on the news. They're the reason I keep hearing the word "majority" every time a dem opens his yap.
We all need to support:
The one who is closest to our conservative philosophy AND has a chance. Sad, but true. Better than Hillary.
