Re: Miami-Dade Police Report Possible Plastic Explosive Device at Cruise Ship Terminal
This has been blown up and it was a very small explosion. Shep Smith said it would have been much larger if there had actually been an explosive in the container.
I am certainly no expert but that sounds logical.
The good news here is that the Port of Miami really seems to be on the ball.

Ok, it was sprinkler parts.
Better safe than sorry.

Re: Miami-Dade Police Report Possible Plastic Explosive Device at Cruise Ship Terminal
Okay, it was just harmless sprinkler parts. I'm glad to hear that, but why did the package test positive 6 times for explosives? At least that's what they said on TV. Was the wrong?
We are told to be suspicious, alert, and aware. I remain suspicious. I'm not saying any of these recent events are terror related, but I do want the full story.

Re: Miami-Dade Police Report Possible Plastic Explosive Device at Cruise Ship Terminal
Look folks, all of us who bring info here can only bring what we see and hear.
We cannot prove it to you, and if you are determined to believe that everything that happens is terrorism, you will believe it no matter what anyone says.
All I can tell you is that it wasn't a very big explosion.
Beyond that, wierd stuff has always happened, people have always been dumb and made bad decisions like the guys in the truck yesterday. Maybe it really was an attempt to check our defenses and if so, we passed. That's a good thing.
OR maybe, just maybe, it was 3 idiots in a truck. Such things do happen.

Authorities: Miami Package Was Harmless
Quote:
Sun-Sentinel
MIAMI -- The Port of Miami was hit by its second terrorism scare in two days Monday when a package that was to be loaded onto a cruise ship tested positive for plastic explosives. Authorities later determined it was just a box of sprinkler parts.
The package was initially tested six times, and each time it came back positive for the military-grade explosive known as C4, the Coast Guard said.
The package was destroyed, and a Miami-Dade County police bomb squad determined the sprinkler parts contained a substance that "closely resembles" plastic explosives, said police spokesman Bobby Williams.

This is just too, too flippin' ridiculous. I'm just waiting for a real explosion to occur and then see what the "security" people have done about that

OR, I don't understand your frustration?

I'm not a chemist, but I can understand one substance appearing to be another during a test.
It seems to me, that had this been C4, it would have been detected, it would have been destroyed, and the authorities did a fine job.
Before 9-11, I probably could have walked right on to a cruise ship with a bag full of C4.
Sure, we can do much better, but security in this country is headed in the right direction.
