Default Dems Will Disappoint The Left

Doug Patton
GOPUSA

Fans of the 1980s sitcom, "Family Ties," will recall the characters of Steven and Elise Keaton, liberal former sixties activists raising their three children, including son Alex, whose "rebellion" against his parents' liberalism manifested itself in staunch Reagan conservatism.

In one particularly poignant episode, Elise and Steven, who have settled into an idealistic but decidedly middle-class lifestyle, reconnect with a radical former comrade from their college days. Their old friend has not changed a bit, and when he proposes starting an "underground" newspaper like the one on which they worked together in college, Steven, desiring to relive their glory days, readily agrees. However, when he submits to his friend an article about the Democrats' chances of recapturing the White House in 1984, he is scorned for having "sold out" to the establishment. The friend protests that Steven no longer is calling for the destruction of the entire political system.

Red face Re: Dems Will Disappoint The Left

If we actually did this it would be a real throwback to the good old days where party platfoms were hammered out at the conventions and delegates would converge on a nominee who agreed to represent the largest platform representing the most votes. The more radical ideals without great merit or support would get cast aside by the party until they were strong enough to become a plank in someone's platform.

I just wonder how many times Cindy Sheehan will appear on the network news before the dems at the network force her off the air. As a Republican thorn she had air cover every time her lips moved.

I know I am being naive, but I do wish our congress critters would vote for what was ultimately best for America's long term health, and stop worrying so much about keeping their individual power. I don't ever see that happening though.

Angry Re: Dems Will Disappoint The Left

Frankly I could care less about the Dems, their lefty kook fringe or how the Left will whine and cry that impeachment did not take place. I am more concerned about how the wussy Pub leadership in the House and Senate are caving into the Dem demands that illegals be granted amnesty, SS will be fixed with tax increases, Iraq is going to be dumped, and the min. wage will be passed. The Pubs now are talking bi-partisanship. They miss the point of their conserv Base. We want them to act like the conserv pols we elected. We want them to be partisan. They instead according to the Senator from Ken. and the Rep. from Ohio , will cave into Dem demands and try to be nice as in those days when Bob Michel, Hugh Scott, Ford, and the other mods lost continually to the Dems. All I see here is that liberalism wins. Doug misses the point. The nation is trending toward pacifist, socialism again. And if the Pubs do too, this is the end of the America we know and love.

Cindy Sheehan and her activist followers are likely to be terribly disappointed by the leadership of the 110th Congress.--clip--
In fact, they may find themselves even more frustrated with the new crop of Dems than many conservatives were with the last twelve years of Republican rule. Cindy and her friends are about to be kicked to the curb by the Democrats in much the same way that many GOP leaders abandoned those of us who expected great things from them, beginning back in 1994. Just as passionate pro-lifers, believers in traditional marriage and advocates of enforcing America's immigration laws became disenchanted with many Republican leaders, the base of the Democratic Party is about to become very frustrated with those they have just voted into power.
Cindy and Dems you reap what you sow.

I think that if we are not careful things will go from bad to worse, and this article makes that point. We are seeing Republicans conceding on issues like minimum wage and immigration because the Democrats won, and therefore we need to implement their ideas. However, they can't even agree what those ideas are, so we will throw ourselves into the meat grinder by conceding.

We do not need to bend to the Democrats. They barely won in a year of record low GOP turnout. Consider that acting like Democrats got us into this problem in the first place, so bending to the Democrats will only make it worse. If anything, we need to be LESS cooperative with liberal ideas, and start acting more conservative.

When Democrats mis-behaved as a childish minority over the last 6 years, people were angry not so much at the Democrats themselves, but because of the policies they were blocking like judges and social security reform. If the remaining GOP hold strong for uncompromising conservative ideals, the backlash will not be against the GOP in ’08 - although we will have to thicken our skin for the MSM scourging at the pillar. Yes, I understand some may think is a dreamy eyed view, but you have to fight for the truth at all costs despite what you perceive as your progress.

The people have spoken and they said, “We will elect conservatives whether they be Democrat or Republican.” The GOPs that sat home in ’06 will not do so in a presidential election. What will we have to offer them? More excuses to elect Democrats In Name Only or a renewed confidence in the conservative movement?

With the debate about the Iraq war, the first order should be to bring up the bills again giving the President the authority to prosecute the war as he sees fit ANYWHERE he finds terrorism. Re-authorize these with the new congress and force the Democrats choose a side. We also need a damn PSA showing all the call for more troops over the years and now flip-flopping when more troops are added.

Candles,

Well, I admit I am not a fluent blogger and may simply not know how all the links work, but the highlighted Precinct in your message doesn't go anywhere - or I don't have access to it. I don't know what the Precinct is. I apologize to the rest of the discussion, but apparently I don't have access to send a private message to Candles either.
