Default Senate blocks census citizenship question

By ANDREW TAYLOR
Associated Press
November 6, 2009

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Senate Democrats Thursday blocked a GOP attempt to require next year's census forms to ask people whether they are U.S. citizens.

The proposal by Louisiana Republican Sen. David Vitter was aimed at excluding non-citizens from the population totals that are used to figure the number of congressional representatives for each state.

Critics said Vitter's plan would discourage immigrants from responding to the census and would be hugely expensive. They also said that it's long been settled law that the apportionment of congressional seats is determined by the number of people living in each state, regardless of whether they are citizens. A separate survey already collects citizenship data.

The dems just want to pad california's and nevada's numbers. This will hurt states like Michigan and others that are losing people due to no work. They know that the illegals will vote for them especially on the left coast.

I long for the day when there is a super majority of conservatives in both houses so they can make permanent changes to all these
asinine rules and laws.

What survey is that? It isn't citizenship data that is the issue. It is non-citizens that are the issue, primarily illegal non-citizens! Sure the government can guess at the number of folks with green cards; it's the others that they have no grasp of, other than that there are many millions of them.

That's the point isn't it? Then they can vote illegally, just as they live here illegally and suck up the already strained resources of an entitlement focused Demonrat government and before you know it we'll be the ones who are illegal!

Why should their numbers count toward the number of Representatives? They have no business being represented in this country. We sure as hell aren't!

I may be paranoid or just a cynic but I'm willing to bet that after the next census we will see a population gain in the southwest and major east coast metropolitan areas. and a major drop in number of representatives for the north and Midwest. The left considers them de facto citizens. Look at pelosi's town the cops have to give an unlicensed driver 20 minutes to find some one to drive their car home if pulled over and cannot arrest them for being here illegally.
