Default Schlafly: Obama Makes Polygamy a 21st-Century Issue

Phyllis Schlafly
Townhall

No sooner had we celebrated the exit of Barack Obama's green jobs czar, Van Jones, because of his Communist connections, another off-the-wall administration embarrassment surfaced. President Obama nominated for commissioner of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) a woman who signed a radical manifesto endorsing polygamy.

We thought our nation had settled the polygamy issue a century and a half ago, but this nomination makes it a 21st century controversy. Obama's nominee for the EEOC, a lesbian law-school professor named Chai R. Feldblum, signed a 2006 manifesto endorsing polygamous households (i.e., "in which there is more than one conjugal partner").

This document, titled "Beyond Same-Sex Marriage: A New Strategic Vision for All Our Families & Relationships," argues that traditional marriage "should not be legally and economically privileged above all others." The American people obviously think otherwise, and current laws reflect our wishes.

President Obama said to judge him by the company he keeps. Well we did and it is not a pretty picture.
It is supposed to be the people who hold public office who are the public servants, not the general public. How did we get this turned around and, more importantly, how are we going to repair this boondoggle?

I had heard a long time ago that gay marriage was just the first salvo in a war on our culture. Seeing as it was supposedly the easiest to get the public to accept and passed into law it was introduced first to be the first step in a series of increasingly radical perversions such as group marriage, animal marriage, child marriage, and so on. Once the door was opened by gay marriage, so the strategy went, all these other perversions would eventually ride its coattails in through the door as well. I have never heard anything to refute this and people such as this Chai and others I have heard quoted only reinforce this idea as factual.

I'm disappointed.

You know how some people have a DeathList 2009 by guessing which famous people will die that year?

I have a "Social Well Being and Morality of America Death List" going. This is a game of guessing which previously taboo and repulsive society trends become acceptable, normal and even encouraged during Obama's Administration.

I had TOTALLY hedged my bets by expecting Barack Obama to pick someone who endorsed NAMBLA or did away with the statute of limitations of a minor waaaayyy before polygamy.

Good thing I had bet on "Racist Czar" (which doubled my points thus far), "Concentration Camps in America" (FEMA) and Thought Crimes legislation ("preventative detention"), both of which are heavily supported by P-BO, or I'd be seriously behind my other Republican friends....
