Default Houston Tea Party rally draws more than 10,000

Houston Chronicle

More than 10,000 people turned out Monday night for a North Houston Tea Party Patriots gathering to protest proposed health care reform and what they called big government spending and overzealous government leadership, according to preliminary attendance figures.

Under clear skies and a perfect moon, crowds packed the field at the Sam Houston Race Park and cheered loudly as speakers called for the people to take control of the American government. Wearing slogans that said “Don't Tread on Me” and T-shirts stating, “I am a Tea Party Patriot — I will defend our Constitution,” those attending the event enthusiastically showed support for more constraints on the government and more personal freedom.

The Tea Party Express 2 will roll into my town for a rally Thursday evening at PM. I don't expect really large numbers but I will be there for sure. You can also bet it will get media coverage here. It really feels great to live in a conservative area of the country.

Emphasis mine.

Why do reporters put these modifiers in their articles."What they called" also sounds a little snarky. I don't notice this much in articles about what reporters believe to be the absolute truth and nothing but the truth.

Good for those who turned out for the rally!

We vote primarily Republican, but they don't seem to be that much different anymore than Democrats,” said Everett Cochran of Montgomery, who attended the rally with his wife, Donna. “Nobody in the party apparently is listening to what the moderates to conservatives are saying — all they're listening to is the moderates to the liberals

Why do people say this when it isn't true. How many republicans are going to vote for the healthcare bill?.....uumm ZERO and how may republicans voted for O's stimulus bill.........uumm ZERO. If we had a republican majority in the house and senate right now, you bet your last dollar there would be no tea party movement. People don't forget who the "enemy" really is. Yes, we want good conservatives, but we have to get the majority to stop this rapid slide into socialism.

They may have been behaving themselves since the big O came to power, but certainly weren't under the last administration, hence that person's comment.

This is also part and parcel of the political correctness we're all infected with R-R. All things must be equal you know. For this I damn the Liberals.

I'll still take any Republican over a Democrat because at least with a Republican I'll get some of what I want. With a Dem I'll just get a whole lot of what I don't want.
