Mexican and Haitian illegals arriving in Canada

The arrivals here [Windsor] began suddenly three weeks ago, just a family or two at first, fueled by the notion — largely unfounded, the authorities here say — that Canada would grant them asylum.

The weather here appears to be one of many surprises challenging the estimated 313 Mexican and Haitian refugee claimants arriving in recent weeks mainly from the Naples, Fla., area, where local authorities have reportedly begun to take more stringent measures toward deporting illegal aliens.

Haitian illegals were assisted in their journey to Canada by the Jerusalem Haitian Community Center of Naples. The Center is under investigation by the Florida Attorney General.

The Canadians are like most countries that have socialized medicine: They don't want any more free-loaders.

Of course, the Liberals in the USA aren't smart enough to realize this fact.

It seems the Canadian border guards blew it. Though I'm not a lawyer, my reading of commentary on this says refugees are supposed to apply for status in the first country they land in. Canada could have invoked this aspect of the law and refused entry to all the Mexicans and Haitians.

It's different for a Mexican getting off a plane from Mexico City in, say, Toronto. They are supposed to be granted entry if they ask for refugee status. While their claim is processed, they get housing and meals if needed. Processing usually takes from 6 months to two years. They are not allowed to work while waiting. It is not clear what would happen if they worked (and were caught working) while in this status.

Applicants from Mexico do not have a great chance of getting refugee status. The ones now in Windsor motels will most likely be returned to the US after a year or so. Haitians are more likely to be admitted.

I find nothing published since Refugee tide slows eleven days ago, so presumably the feared thousands did not follow the pioneers.

I hope the Canadians really take a very hard, no tolerance attitude towards these illegal aliens as they are promising.

It will provide our weak knee'd leaders some political cover to behave in a similar manner.

I believe that if Canada doesn't start, right from the beginning, enforcing their immigration laws, they will soon be just like us.

I'm guessing that, just maybe, the Canadian government realizes this & it is the reason why they are taking a firmer stance than we do.

And MAYBE our government will see the reasoning behind enforcing immigration laws...NOW.

An update. Illegals are still arriving in Windsor. Most of the recent arrivals are Haitians.

"In September we had 300, it's over 400, soon it may be at 700. I don't know the end number. I don't know what to expect."

What a great time for them to end up with an influx of illegals. Those who are always yowling about free health care and welfare in this country ought to take a good look at the unemployment rates in all the socialist countries. I think France is the worst with about 14% unemployment but the U.S. hasn't had that high an unemployment rate since Jimmy Carter was in office, if memory serves.

Now their unemployment rate can go up even further with illegals who won't be allowed to work during the 1-2 years it takes them to have their situation ratified, unless they wouldn't be included in the rate of unemployed.

Canada, France and Germany all elected "conservative" heads of state in the last election which says, among other things, that the populace of these countries may be a wee bit tired of the high unemployment rate, along with the constant drumbeat against the U.S. and incursions by Islamofascists in their countries.

Better there than here! Wonder what happens if they get sick or need a medical procedure or medicine? Do they get in line and get it for free?
