The other big news of the day concerned Bill Frist's agreement to serve as Senate majority leader if that is the will of the other senators. My biggest concern is that Lott not resign as the Senator from Mississippi. *http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/santa.gif

I didn't see it all, but he seemed to agree that there were, shall we say, "omissions". http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/doh.gif Colin Powell sounded much more "hawkish" than usual. Which means to me that war is probably inevitable. Terri ~ I think I heard that "L" has said he won't leave the Senate even if he is replaced as ML. I really feel sorry for Bush ~ he didn't need all this internal junk going on while he's got so much other stuff on his plate. However, he runs a tight ship and I know everything will fall into place eventually. Don't you like strange news? *I saw some this morning. Pat Buchanan was heard to utter an 8 letter word commonly known as bovine excrement on the air a couple of days ago. It's looking more and more as though Lott's replacement will be Senator Bill Frist. There is a story up in the Congress section. Well, things are shaping up in the Senate that is shaping up for an overthrow.

Watching the news this AM and they say Mr. Lott just taint gonna step down and that he has 20 firm votes in his pocket. I wonder how they know that. As I said earlier this week, I think Mr. Lott is about to find out just how many friends he doesn't have in the Senate, that is, if he hasn't already found out.

Hello to all the regulars and new folks. All this Lott stuff is starting to depress me. I didn't want him to step down before because I thought he would retire and we had a chance of losing our majority but if he will stay in the senate, I would DEFINATELY like to see him step down. I thought before it wouldn't be a good thing but now, after thinking some more, it might be good if we can say to the democrats "hey, we dealt with this man quickly and efficiently and you dems can not say we don't deal with our internal problems so get off the race thing, you two faced scumsuckers!!!"http: //gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/teeth2.gif

Here is the text of the Lott statement.

"In the interest of pursuing the best possible agenda for the future of our country, I will not seek to remain as majority leader of the United States Senate for the 108th Congress effective Jan. 6, 2003," Lott said in a written statement Friday. "To all those who offered me their friendship, support and prayers, I will be eternally grateful. I will continue to serve the people of Mississippi in the United States Senate."

As to Frist, I believe he has a pretty good ACU rating. I'll go look.

I do know that he's very popular among the other senators and with the White House.

McConnell has just said he will support Frist for the post but Santorum may be going to challenge.

So much for my guess that Lott would step down on Jan 5th. Frist is the one promoted by the Whitehouse - he led the drive in the recent senatorial re-election campaign. I believe he is a doctor - that beats any lawyer hands down.

I'm glad to hear about Senator Lott stepping aside and remaining in the Senate. Let's all let a sigh of relief.(WHEW)
Here is a heads up for everybody. I have a website I do for a hobby. It's called The Carolina Stump.com and it is an opinion web site. I like to consider it a place for people to submit opinions like they would letters to the editor of their favorite newspaper. So, Lott is no more the leader of the Republicans in the Senate. It's about time. I mean, not for this one stupid statement he made, which was blown way the ehck out of proportion anyway, but for a lifetime of stupid statements and actions. And the fact that he was yellow. And I don't mean oriental.

Maybe it was that Lott lived by the philosophy of to "pick and choose" your fights. I just wish he would have picked one over the past however many years he was leader. Seems like he was the compromising fool. He would compromise when others wouldn't. By compromise, I don't mean meet in the middle. I mean meet at the left. Give in.

So anyway, he's out as leader, which is good. I'm glad he's still in the Senate though. I have nothing against him being a senator. But he was never, in my mind, leadership material.

Au contraire ~ Hill Burton law requires a participating hospital (translated county hosptials) to treat anyone, no questions asked. They come across the border to have their babies every day and if they show up at an emergency room they get treatment. Some stay, some go back and forth, but rarely are they turned in. The hospital gets a huge sum of money each year via the tax payers to supplement indigent care. Either we pay the freight or they close down the hospital. I've lived in a county that has had a very heavy influx of illegals in the past few years and I've never heard of anyone turning them in for anything ~ unless they get picked up for a crime. They attend school ~ no questions asked. So I don't really believe they are in fear of being apprehended.

Frist I want to say that things are not looking up for conservatives in the Senate.

Here in Alaska our new Governor just elected his daughter to be the new U.S. Senator to take his place. She is a liberal. So we win one and lose one.

I heard on Fox this afternoon that the DESPICABLE dems are now trying to strip Frisk of any respectability. EXACTLY as I suspected....they are just out to scorch earth any republican in site. Anyway, they've dug up some quote of Frisk's where he spoke of some particular part of some town as "the jungle". Do you all not understand EXACTLY what kind of cesspool he's talking about? We all have them in our near vicinities. Evening All: Terri, if you make to much of that fudge, you know where I live. I guess this is the time of the year to talk about food - well at least finger food - bet its going to be good. I remember some of the Xmas parties I attended when I worked - some of them had some really good food.

I was trying to keep this a light and positive post, but someone mentioned the national witch, Hillary. Shame there isn't a law that would stop this type of slander when there is no supporting evidence. The problem is the group she is addressing - they don't need proof.

As far as illegals being afraid to go to the hospital - not around here. If you go to the local hospital emergency room you have to push your way through the spanish speaking crowd. When I worked for my last company - they used a lot of temporary labor, mostly illegals and none of them would take the company provided health insurance because they knew they could get help thru the emergency room at no cost.
