We should have news of SOS Powell's meeting with the terrorist Arafat this morning.

Al Gore spoke to a Democratic gathering in Florida yesterday! Yep! No surprises! He's still as wooden as ever. Read all about it in Politics. :turquoiserolleyes:

GOOD MORNING http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sun1.gif Terri and GOP'ers!

Looks like Powell is out of his *ill advised* meeting with Arafat. It also looks like it was an exercise in futility. At least that's what they are saying "nothing constructive has been decided". DUH! I'm shocked.
Rita Cosby probably got more from Arafat than Powell.:turquoiserol leyes:

Well, I've got to get it in gear starting today. Only a few days left before I leave on vacation and I've gotten zip done to get ready. :turquoiserolleyes:

Yesterday was such fun. I feel as though I have known Sabre for years. I wish we had had more time to visit. It was really a special day for me. Too bad we are so far flung, Colorado, Illinois and Florida.

Have a great day all!

So the first meeting is over. Now the wait to see how it is spun. Early reports don't really have much information.

Guests, we hope you will register and give us your opinions on any subject you would like to discuss. There are many things of interest posted in our forums.

Aknauta, we need a report on your caucus yesterday. http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

RIM, tell us more about your vacation. Yes, it is too bad we are all so spread out but one never knows. I've met some internet friends from far flung places and it could happen again.

Hi Terry,

* The interior of Alaska had it's Republican District Caucus yesterday and there was a good turn-out. The total was 7 districts present out of a state-wide 40.
* The interior of Alaska, represented by the Fairbanks North Star Borough is the second largest population base in the state and has been noted for it's conservative State Representatives.

* We picked up some new faces and had a productive day in friendly argument over resolutions and planks, as usual. Nothing particular showed up this year in terms of concentrated interest group efforts. There was a resolution on the Lebanese Christian community that passed handily (check out Alaska web page commentary).

Because re-drawing of district boundaries created new districts, there WAS a little confusion in the beginning over who was where but 3 of us had brought our computers with the state registration information and newly drawn maps to make sure everyone was informed of their correct district.
Unfortunately during this convention the state board was at work changing the maps of the district boundaries, made necessary by a successful court challenge by the Alaska Republican Party. Several hours after the caucus ended the state board made a unanimous decision on the new boundaries.

The district delegates chosen by the legal precinct members at the time of session will stand until 2 years from now when new officers and delegates will be chosen. However the new districts were not substantially different from those we used as our delegate selection criteria, with a few exceptions.
The State Convention is to be held in Ketchikan this year on May 16-18. Although the necessary air travel is expensive (&#36400 special fare from here) it looks like the interior will have many delegate positions filled.
I count this years District Convention a success. *

Hi, everyone.
First of all, let me introduce myself. My name is Donna; I live in Tucson, AZ.
I'm a Registered Nurse; work in a neonatal intensive care unit. I have a grown son who served in the US Army for 7 years and is currently a flight attendant.
I'm very politically active in my area. A precinct committeeman, state Committeeman, and past board member of Tucson Republican Women.
Currently helping with the Matt Salmon for Governor campaign.
There was a debate yesterday of the 3 Republican candidates, and they all made me proud of my party.
I'm also in the end stages of a major home remodeling project .... I'm exhausted LOL!!

Hi Aknauta and Donna. Boy you two really sound involved. That's really wonderful. http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/twothumbsup.gif Donna, I know what you mean about remodeling ~ we are redoing all the woodwork on our back porch and that is more than enough for me. Everything is a mess.:tearhair: Glad you joined our little (but growing) group. Aknauta, thanks for the update on the "district" business in your state. Florida picked up a couple of electoral votes this year and I think they are in Republican districts. The 2002 election is very important to the conservative agenda. We must win back the Senate.

Terri, you're right. I've "flung" myself from one end of this county to the other over the years. Even panned for gold in a stream in Colorado. Found out it was "fool's gold". :turquoiserolleyes: We nearly moved there back in 1972. The mountains are spectacular. Had a friend in Steamboat Springs.

Well, I don't think a darn thing came of Powell's visit with Arafat. Of course, we probably promised to rebuild his whole (soon to be) country and pay reparations if they just play nice. http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mr_yuk.gif

We've been out running around today. It's so nice that we took a little jaunt to Canon City and stopped at an old favorite for an early dinner on the way back. I can't believe this weather.

Aknauta, thanks for the interesting report on your state caucuses. I will go read the Alaska report. Are you a delegate to the state convention? We have redistricting here too which finally had to go to the courts.

Donnalee! You are one busy lady and we are glad you found some time for us. That sounds like a high pressure and very important job that you do. How does your son feel about the state of airline safety? *I hope you'll keep us updated on the Arizona political scene. I would especially like to hear what the homefolks feel about McCain these days.

RIM, I've panned a little fool's gold myself from time to time. Not all of it was in the river either. http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mdr11.gif Steamboat is a gorgeous town but a lot more upscale these days than it used to be. My husband was raised not far from there.

I sure hope we haven't agreed to pay Arafat anything. I still think we should stand back and close our eyes for a little while. However, there is a growing group who thinks there is more to this. Maybe so.

OK YOU GUYS!!!!!!!! WE HAD A BLAST!!!!!!! RIM is SOOO right.....we talked....and talked.....and talked....and talked.....then we solved the world's problems....and talked....and talked.......LOL

Now I'll give you the side of the story that RIM DIDN'T tell you.....I was ONE HOUR late and poor RIM was sitting in the lobby at Walmart ALL THAT TIME while I drove 80 miles an hour sweating to death that she was going to be SOOOOOO mad! It was quite a bit further to the meeting place than I was led to believe by people on my end...but RIM was SOOO charming and lovely about having to sit there waiting on me!!

THEN.....I had repeatedly told her that I wanted to take her out to lunch..or brunch..or something, and when it came time to pay the check, I went to the bathroom and came back and she had already paid!! AND, she would NOT take "NO" for an answer. SO, I was a jerk who made her wait...and then SHE paid for the lunch!

It was SOOOO much fun I couldn't even begin to put it into words. Terri...your name came up repeatedly in our conversations and how much we wished you could be there with us. I've been thinking about that alot since our meeting too. I'd LOVE to get the foxhole conservababes together for a long weekend somewhere. We'll have to talk it over sometime.

It was like we'd known each other forever (well, actually, we have!), but it is SO very nice to be able to put a face with a name! RIM is one of those rare people who is as beautiful on the outside as she is on the inside. I don't find many people nowadays that I can say that about unfortunately, but she is ONE OF A KIND!

This was my first experience with meeting someone from the internet, but would highly recommend it to anyone else when given the opportunity. It was uplifting and invigorating to meet up with friends in "far flung places". You're next Terri as soon as the western states are in my plans!

Thank you RIM for posting the pictures...and thank you for being so kind to me. Foxhole Friends....it's great!

(Good thing there isn't a "maximum" on exclamation points!! LOL) I'll be back into "news" mode tomorrow, but for now I'm still basking in my mini-vacation!

Sailor! Welcome to http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/gopusa.gif !

Saber!!! *Welcome back!

It's so nice that you and RIM could get together. It's lots of fun meeting someone you only know from the net. I'm really glad to hear you got the world's problems solved. Have you called Colin Powell to tell him??? http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mdr11.gif

I'm not surprised RIM waited for you. I know she really, really wanted to see you. http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Who knows, one of these days we might have a http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/gopusa.gif gathering somewhere. We just need a few more members and everyone to get better acquainted. Time will take care of that. The nicest folks are here. I can feel it.

Hi Everyone!

Wow! What a wonderful lunch you guys had yesterday, RIM and Saber! Wish I had been a fly on the wall! Yes, meeting someone from the internet is really neat. As Terri has said, I've also met many and I've had no disappointments yet...errrrr... well, maybe one or two but nothing major.

I took the weekend off from the computer only spending a few minutes on here and there. I needed some time to myself.

Now I have lots to catch up on.
