FBI, DHS Warn of Possible Subway, Rail Attacks

Fox News
January 28, 2004

WASHINGTON — There is a continuing terrorist threat against U.S. subways and railways, the FBI and Department of Homeland Security (search) said in a bulletin sent to law enforcement agencies Wednesday. *

"Recent intelligence indicates a continued terrorist interest in conducting attacks on U.S. subways and railways," the bulletin said. "Although the FBI possesses no information indicating a specific threat to subways and rail systems in the United States, the potential for an attack cannot be ruled out."

The FBI and DHS mention in the bulletin that Usama bin Laden's Al Qaeda (search) terror network has had a long-standing fascination with the 1995 sarin gas attack on the Tokyo subway system.

Am I the only one irritated with the fact that "can't be ruled out" has become a local moniker with the FBI and DHS?

Schools can't be ruled out.
Planes can't be ruled out.
Big cities can't be ruled out.
Subways can't be ruled out.
New Years Day in Vegas can't be ruled out.

There's a potential attack ANYWHERE. *At ANY TIME. *What is the point of this stupid bulletin?

Well let's see if I can help, AZ.

Apparently the intelligence community keeps picking up talk about this.

The bulletin was for law enforcement, not the general public.

Someone leaked it the press.

The press reported it.

And I posted it here.

Would you rather not know that there is concern for these methods of transportation?

In regards to the potential threat posed to our Country by such enemies as Osama bin Ladin, the Commodore reminds his colleagues in Forum that a terrorist threat can occur in the USA at any time, at any place, from any source. Oklahoma City was home-grown, two years to the day Hillary and Reno attacked Koresh at Waco. Liddy speculates that OKC was vengenance for Waco; to this day, the Feds haven't taken out any militia camps, and (except for Osama and the WTC) we haven't had major terrorist attacks.

We cannot -- we must not -- spend our time worrying about when and where the next terrorist attack will occur. Doing so will only send us to the Insane Asylum, or the morgue.

Perhaps some of the oldest advice known is that written by James ben Joseph, the brother of Our Lord according to tribal reckoning: Make long term plans, but live as if today is the last day of your life.
