David Kay: Exclusive interview

Tom Brokaw
NBC
January 26, 2004

David Kay, who resigned last week as the chief U.S. weapons inspector in Iraq, now says he didn't find stockpiles of WMD — or evidence of a nuclear program well under way in Saddam Hussein's Iraq — and he blames it on a greatly flawed intelligence system and analysis.

When I met Dr. Kay in Baghdad last summer he showed me the bales of documents he was confident would lead to the weapons. But instead, he says, Iraqi scientists told him Saddam's WMD program was in chaos.

David Kay: They describe in Iraq that was really spinning into a vortex of corruption from the very top in which people were lying to Saddam, lying to each other for money; the graft and how much you could get out of the system rather than how much you could produce was a dominant issue.

Terri,

Here's more text taken from the News Telegraph of the UK with more quotes from Kay. *Why isn't the media putting out this portion of the truth??? *Have any of you seen this Kay information on any of the usual suspects: (liberal media outlets) reports? This is HUGE news in my humble opinion.

Saddam's WMD hidden in Syria, says Iraq survey chief
By Con Coughlin
(Filed: 25/01/2004)

David Kay, the former head of the coalition's hunt for Iraq's weapons of mass destruction, yesterday claimed that part of Saddam Hussein's secret weapons programme was hidden in Syria.

In an exclusive interview with The Telegraph, Dr Kay, who last week resigned as head of the Iraq Survey Group, said that he had uncovered evidence that unspecified materials had been moved to Syria shortly before last year's war to overthrow Saddam.

THE LIBERAL MEDIA NOR THE DEMOCRATS WILL EVER REPORT ANYTHING POSITIVE RE: BUSH, UNTIL THEY HAVE EDITED, DELETED AND THEN REWRITE. THEN THEY WILL HAVE THEIR SATISFACTORY REPORT. I REALLY THOUGHT BUSH SHOULD HAVE FIRED TENET, CIA, BECAUSE HE WORKEDUNDER CLINTON, AND MAY POSSIBLY BE IN ON THEIR SCHEMING.

What is frustrating is the short attention span that has seemingly erased the fact that in March 2003, Iraq was ordered to dismantle AL-SAMOUD II missles discovered by the infamous Hans "Mr. Magoo" Blitz!

I'm not surprised that most Americans rely on 5 second sound bites, but the media seems to have fallen into this trap as well. Call it convenient amnesia on their part. I can almost accept that they don't have the ability to remember Saddam used gas on the Kurds, but DON'T THEY REMEMBER WE CAUGHT SADDAM WITH BANNED WEAPONS in 2003? I'm sure Israel considered these missles "WMD." And what about the pay-offs Saddam made to Palestian suicide bomber's families?

This is a considerable frustration when the administration won't fire back with well known FACTS. They could and should be keeping the time-line of truth when responding to accusations.

Clare, I think you are correct about Tenet, and Leon Mineta was another hold-over from Bubba and gang that should have never been placed in a Bush cabinet position.

TB: But an imminent threat to the United States?

DK: Tom, an imminent threat is a political judgment. It’s not a technical judgment. I think Baghdad was actually becoming more dangerous in the last two years than even we realized. *Saddam was not controlling the society any longer. In the marketplace of terrorism and of WMD, Iraq well could have been that supplier if the war had not intervened.

All the more reason to go into Iraq and establish our presence in unequivocal terms.

Furthermore, let us not forget to demand answers from France, Germany, and Russia, and the grand and glorious UN. *These outfits were direct beneficiaries of the same "out of touch" Saddam regime to the tune of BILLIONS of dollars. *Remember the oil-for-food program/scam? *What other fun games did these guys play during this time of confusion and chaos? *Maybe a little bit of hide-and-seek with WMD in whole or in part?

Iraq had all this money floating into and out of the country with Saddam's regime ruling by lethal force. *Doing anything they wanted, with anyone, and to anyone.

Duh, gee, Tennesee, should we once again just forget about the preponderance of the evidence and do nothing until it is too late?

Hey Claire: I have held this opinion for a long time. It has been very curious why GWB has not cleaned out the dim bureaucrat hold overs, particularly Tenet, and as Nancy521 points out, Mineta. Yeah, Mr. TSA who obstructs the will of the people, FFDO, and places all of us at additional risk over the arming of pilots. Remember that Mineta reports to Ridge who reports to Bush. All this PC nonsense at the airports comes directly from the top of this administration. He should have cleaned our the lib leftovers at Foggy Bottom too. State has been an interfering thorn in the side for a long time. Powell not withstanding. *I think this goes back to George's time as TX Gov. The bipartisan coalition building process only works for as long as the opposition allows it too. The dims were in power in the state house and the TX governorship is really more of a figurehead than with any real power. This go along to get along crap doesn't work in DC and Gomorrah. Witness the Rockefeller intel commtt b.s.

I don't think the netwk news will show anything favorable, in the least, to Bush. Of course they will stone wall any news of WMD in Syria so that if/when we go into the Bekaa Valley they can accuse GW of being a Cowboy and of not having the justification.

USMC,

You are correct, and the next place we should go is the Bekka Valley. *Due to the incredible delay by the UN as well as the efforts by GW to gain a strong coalition preceeding this war, there was more than enough time and opportunity for WMD's to move from Iraq to Syria. *Assad was all about playing nice with us shortly after we invaded Iraq, but now seems to be a tad more uppity with his latest comments. *Perhaps now that his buddy Saddam is in jail, he no longer worries about any backlash from Saddam and can now feel free to stockpile these "missing" WMD's himself?

It doesn't take a math or physics whiz at the very least to wonder where all of this stuff went, and why Saddam was so adamant about no inspections prior to the return of Mr. Magoo, et. al in 2002. *While the lefties are so busy hoping GW and crew don't find WMD's, where are the voices asking where the paperwork is to prove they don't exist? *Truly, does anyone think that if this man did not have WMD's he wouldn't also have more than enough paperwork or videos or something to prove he was telling the truth and thus save his own tush? *The UN had to order him to turn paperwork over, and whatever became of all of that? *Are they still trying to translate it?

I'll add one more thing. *Sometimes I wonder if I'm in the Twilight Zone where liberals who once championed human rights in Bosnia to condone a pre-emptive strike refuse to champion the liberation of Iraqis with a pre-emptive strike. *

Gad they chap my hide!

any one remember the sr-71? it was that plane we used to overfly and map just about the entire world, and now we have satellites that overfly and take pictures a couple times a day!! of course the dumbs think that we are going to be driving a jeep across the desert and run right up on top of a big pile of munitions. and that is their mentality. the stuff has been buried somewhere, whether syria or iraq--who knows, but we played patty cake with hussein far too long and should have taken him out a long time ago but were threatened during the gulf war that if we did we would have no more backing by saudi. so we didn't and that is going to make things a lot harder to find because after that he had an idea of what would befall him--so he started hiding stuff. most of it has to be buried and since he built bunkers all over, they pretty much have to be in one. we found trailers that had been used for some of the experiments but just couldn't tell as what was tested in them. that in itself should be enough to say that there was something.

Hussein, ben Ladin, Al Q., WMD, have been terroristic threats, for enough years, that something should have been learned, by now!
1) Our OWN Countrymen, thanks to the 'Clintonite' regime, GAVE the very people who welcomed & protected many of their ilk, advance warning, when he(Clinton), pulled his 'limp-wristed attempt' to stifle the terroristic attacks. We ALL know how much good that did!
2) In spite of all the evidence to the contrary, anyone could read or watch, what happened to the folks who were gassed, starved, burnt out, and blacklisted, because they weren't followers of the Jehad.
3) As to my personal opinion, I think those weapons, in whatever form, are safely tucked away, in Syria, just waiting for a 'sign' from the "right" people to rear their ugly heads!
4) Not to belittle the efforts of our blessed Military, but, just because this wretch is caught does not mean he can't reach us. Beware, my People. It AIN'T done!
