Good morning all! Well, another hot one today.

Local news is reporting a bomb found on/at one of our navy bases. I'm waiting for it to come on again so I can get the details. In the last few days, there was an incident with four men, illegals, being arrested when they were found on base taking photos of navy ships. I'll put a link in the terrorism forum.

Ok - just got an update. It may not have been a bomb. It appears to have been a bomb, and it was found in a dumpster. The bomb squad was called, they detonated it, and they said it would have caused minimal damage had it exploded on its own. It was the fourth security alert on base this week.

OK you guys.....the party of "smaller government" just voted in some enormous prescription drug benefit for the elderly to be tied to Medicare. Apparently the vote was very early this morning. This was a Republican (?) bill I believe. I'm trying to find the article (it's in the NY Times and I can't get in there without subscribing apparently). And then they wonder why the Republicans out in the vast wasteland are disgruntled and ready to bolt..........gotta go find more before I totally blow my top.....I'll be back........

As to the bill itself, I'm not for it but there is a lot of pressure from constituents on all members of Congress to deliver this bill. It's a natural result of the nanny state that has been built over the past 75 years.

Actually, there are differences. I know there are two versions of this bill, one Republican and one Democrat.

I wish that Bush could change people's mindset from expecting to be cared for by the government but that's going to take a lot more than one President in on 4 year administration. *

The people have allowed the nanny state to come about and the people are going to have to change it if it is ever changed. One way to start would be by ensuring that students are exposed to our founding documents in school. They need to know that government has a limited roll.

Another way to let the future generations see first hand the effects of the nanny state? Exchange programs - send them to spend a year in a socialist country like Sweden or Denmark, where the nanny state has been fully developed for decades. I lived there 3 years when I was a pre-teen. Now, I was young, but I could see what was going on. In Denmark, people are taxed more than 80% of their income, but medical, educational, etc. benefits come from the government (they get free education through masters degrees&#33http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif. One side effect is that most children live with their parents into their 30s! They cannot afford to live on their own. Talk about dependency!

I don't see the drug companies as greedy. Perhaps it's because my husband once worked for one...but nonetheless....I saw firsthand what kind of money it takes in R&D and the years and years and years of trials it takes to get ANYTHING through the government red tape. It's EXTREMELY expensive to come up with new drugs and the patents on the ones that actually DO get approved is what...10 years? That means they must recoup and make some profit on these drugs in a very limited amount of time. Keep in mind, too, that MOST trialed drugs do NOT ever make it to the consumer and there's alot of money tied up in those failures too.

I added a bunch of people to my "GOPTeamLeader" group, which is a way to help promote the administration's agenda. FYI, I only use it (to forward messages from the admin) when it is on actual conservative issues. There are times I disagreed with an issue, and merely didn't forward the message. Anyone wishing to be added to those updates, let me know (I would need your name and e-mail address, but you could "Message" me with it if you wished).

I decided to not work Friday next week, so I suppose you could call that a 10-day holiday, as I am going to be gone (far from the reaches of cyberspace) the following week. Tell us if you are doing anything special for Independence Day in your neck of the country. And remember, if people refer to the holiday as the "4th of July", remind them that the holiday is called Independence Day, which just happens to occur on the 4th of July. I have it on good authority, from a University of Miami RN grad who has been in the medical field for over 30 years that our pharmaceutical firms are government subsidized and they get huge grants for R & D (which I believe "extrapolates" http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif into taxpayer funding). *Seriously, she told me that Plough Sherring alone was paid millions and millions to do R&D in a foreign country. *Then when the drug is finally approved (after they have milked the goverment for as long as they can) we the taxpayers and consumers get to pay again at the pharmacy. *We charge more for drugs than almost any other industrialized nation. *(I love ya ~ and country music hasn't come between us so I know this won't) http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Well the sneate voted 99-0 to uphold 1950's adding of the words "under God" WooHoo In your face 9th CC.. And the 9th CC has posponed upholdinh their ruling until an appeal can be heard...sounds like the heard what the nation had to say about their little decision! LOL

The bassist form The Who has died at the age of 57(?) I think that was his age..

Join us in our writing campaign to our legislators and the president re the Illegal Immigration policies. The more we write the more they hear - maybe if enough people write they will get the message.

Good news: My wife was able to use her arms and eat a sandwich at lunch today. I guess the therapy is helping because until today she couldn't raise them higher than her chest. This is the first time in two weeks that she helped feed herself. She will go into the Nursing Home on Monday for re-hab. I'm trying to find a used handicapped van with a wheelchair ramp, that I can afford, so I'll be able to get her to and from the doctors office. Keep your fingers crossed and a little prayer won't hurt. Thanks again for caring.

Fox is saying that there is a small fire on an upper floor. Everyone is out and fireman are climbing ladders on the outside of the building now. It doesn't seem as though anyone is too excited in the tv pictures.

Saber, are you listening to Sean Hannity this afternoon? He is asking if there is anyone left in D.C. who supports limited government.

RIM....if you want to call tax deductions for R&D a "government subsidy"...then OK. *Otherwise, it's just plain not true. *Pharmaceutical companies get tax write offs for R&D work the same as a steel company or a seed company develops a new product through R&D..they get a credit also.

We have the best healthcare in the world ----and the best drugs in the world. *Many foreign countries don't have the leading edge drugs because foreign governments won't let the companies charge the full price for the R&D, the government trials, and all the costs associated with bringing a new drug to market.

My hubby laughed out loud when I asked him about direct grants. *He said he's never heard of any such thing.

Apparently the fire in the Capitol was a false alarm in spite of what Fox reported earlier.

There's also been another warrant issued in the Smart case. Maybe they are gradually getting somewhere. I hope.

Saber, my dad was and is the pharmaceutical industry for years. He agrees with your hubby. Any R & D money is NOT subsidies as far as the industry is concerned, and certainly are not grants. Most of my 3 childrens' collge tuition is vested in a pharmaceutical stock, so I hope that the industry stays strong.

Terri, not much rest yet - between running to the hospital, taking care of the house and 3 dogs. *Its about 15 miles to the hospital and the nursing home is about a half mile from the hospital. *The staff helps her with breakfast and I feed her lunch and dinner. *I went to the nursing home this evening and it was quite nice - very clean and appeared to be well staffed. *She will be going to the nursing home on Monday and will only be there for 20 days.

The fire in the capitol was a motor and only took the firemen a few minutes to put out the fire. *I think the news said the people would be able to return in about 40 minutes. *

John Kasich filled in for O'Reilly tonite and his segment on illegals ticked me off. *He does not favor troops on the border-said if we have 38,000 manning the border in Korea, it would take a 100,000 or more to cover the Mexican and Canadian borders - shows his stupidity - in Korea the 38,000 are needed to stop an armed invasion, not a bunch of illegals.

Ernest you are right about me being a fan of Andy. My sister in law was taught by Andy in high school in Goldsboro, NC.

There was a time in the early part of the 2000 election primaries that I really liked Kasich, possibly better than all the rest. Good evening everyone. I had a wonderful, but exhausting, day. I mostly played in the pool instead of swimming, but it was fun times with the girlfriend.
