The '04 Dems weigh in on 'Code Orange'

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- As the nation adjusts to an "orange" Christmas, the '04 Democratic presidential candidates are issuing mixed responses to the Homeland Security Department's decision to raise the terror threat level from "elevated" to "high."

The varied responses signal that not all of the campaigns think that politicizing this issue during the holidays is the best strategy.

• General Wesley Clark is one candidate who did see an opening.

Clark argued on Monday's "Inside Politics" that the continued intelligence about threats was a result of the Bush Administration's preoccupation with Iraq. He said the heightened alert status is a sign that "we've been putting our resources into the wrong area."

The Commodore is not exactly a fan of President Clinton (or her husband), but the official Clinton did right when Clark got his retirement papers. Clark is only a stand-in for Hillary. And he will be wiped out in NH, if not in SC (or IA first).

RE-ELECT GW!!!

But Democratic strategist Doug Schoen said he believes that homeland security is an issue Democrats shouldn't cede to the Republicans.

Schoen said, "We are less secure than we were a couple of years ago. We haven't broken the back of al Qaeda. And it is a legitimate question in the presidential election."

This is rich. You mean to tell me the Dems think we are less safe today with a terror alert system, Dept of Homeland Security, and heightened awareness of terroist activity, than we were 2 years ago when none of the above were in place?

This is the problem with the Democratic party. Instead of coming with original ideas, they want to reinvent issues that have been already resolved. The terror issue has been an issue since the World Trade 93' attack, but they were too busy kicking in the doors of Cuban immigrabts to take custody of a little boy, as well as calling out the ATF on cult radicals.

Right, they don't have to cede the security issue to Republicans, because they did by ignoring the issue and pretending it didn't exist. Wow, you can get away with more than lying about sex, when the economy is good.

Job security of Clintonista hacks is the only thing not secure after 9-11. It looks like Howie "I fling poo" Dean has a walk-on for the nomination. Of course GW will walk all over him, but, he will control the CDNC. Then the Clintonista gravy-train will de-rail. The Lying B*tch may even face a primary fight in '06, and with Dean the puppet master at the CDNC she will have zero national party support. Rumor has it Rudy will have a go at her seat (which I would love to see) and she will go into 08 unemployed and hopefully forgotten. The hat trick would be a conviction for perjury to match her worthless husband's. http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/usflag22.gif
