Why is it so hard to believe?
Written by: Carolyn Hileman
Why is it so hard to believe that those of us who supported both wars actually care about the welfare of our soldiers? To hear some people say it if we really cared we would want them home with their families. The fact is that is exactly what we want, we want to see them safe at home with their families knowing that they will in fact be safe. Why is it so hard to believe that we pray for them when each of us asks the Lord to watch over them each night? Why is it so hard to believe that we are just as concerned about the repeated attacks on our soldiers and wish nothing more than their speedy exit from those lands?
Maybe it is because we fought so hard for them to go, because we believe that Saddam was and still is a threat to our country. Maybe it is because we stood in the streets to let our soldiers know that we supported their efforts. Maybe it is because we have been known to say that this is war and bad things happen in a war. Maybe that is how people started thinking we did not care, or could it be that a certain group of people kept repeating that lie till people started to believe it. Maybe it is because we did nothing to dispute these claims.
So I am going to set the record straight here and now, first of all the only wishing ill of our soldiers have I heard came from the liberals from a professor no less. The only people who stand to win if we lose are those who are going around using the word quagmire like it is some new hip word. The only people I have heard that do not care if we injure these soldiers sense of pride and drag them home in defeat is you guessed it the liberals.
So to say we don’t care is beyond belief, were we not the ones out there when people were demonstrating against them holding up signs saying we love our military and support our troops. But no we must be evil because the liberals say we are, just like they say we said that if they disagree with us they are unpatriotic. We never said that I think Colmes may have said it every time he was backed into a corner, but somehow it has come about that everyone is saying that. I personally have not said anyone is unpatriotic unless they truly were.
Now if you go around telling everyone just how bad America really is, your not unpatriotic you are anti-American there is a difference. Because I can assure you there are a lot of those blame America first people who have just as many flags as us and wave them proudly. Patriotic, to wave their flag proudly, it does not say that they have to be proud of their country so they can just be proud to have a flag to wave and still be patriotic. America - Major earth division fitting definition I must say, however it does go on to name the various types of people make up America.
It is funny how the dictionary does not give you a description about what America is, just things like Yank, Yankee and northeasterners. It does not say anything about her spirit, her ability to overcome anything that is thrown or flown at her. While it does attest to her many different cultures it by no means describes the people whom inhabit her great lands. It does not describe the farmer, the trucker or the soldier. It does not tell you anything about the mother, or the working women or the one who struggles to be both by choice or circumstance.
To the dictionary America is just another word to be described as a large landmass, but to her people she is so much more. She is the very essence of freedom, a beacon of light and hope for the world. She is the newborn child struggling for their first breath and the aged old man breathing his last. She is the simple, such as the early morning sunset over the beach and the hard such as watching her people divide them selves. She is the ever-watchful guardian of freedom often sending her forces to assure our safety. She is the reason we fight at home and abroad, only because we each see a different version of her. Why then would it be so hard to believe that we all want our troops home safely we just have different ideas how to get that accomplished.
