Good Morning! Well, even though I have today off, I'm up way too early. So much for plans to sleep in - I've been up since 4:30! (On work days, I normally don't even get up until 6:30, and then I have to drag myself out of bed! Go figure.)

Terri - thongs for tots? Joke, right?

Ok - now I'm scared about that trade bill - I was just reading on Rush's website about an amendment that had been added to this bill regarding union workers and an entitlement - I wonder if this was part of the bill that passed. I'll have to go look.

I don't know what to think about Chandra Levy. It is improbable, I think statistically, that it wasn't Condit, but then again, statistics don't know everything. It could be this park attacker guy.

Well, I just went to the Senate website (which surprisingly had not been updated yet today) and searched through the actions from yesterday - nothing about the trade bill. It was very interesting, however, to read about some of the inane resolutions that take up their time. No wonder libs want big government - another do-nothing job with great pay.

You'd have to know how dry it is here to appreciate how wonderful this rain is. It should help to extinguish the huge fire that is roaring through our mountains.

Sue Elise, I wish the thongs for tots was a joke. I've posted a story about it in Culture and Society. They were for pre teens and even very small children and had suggestive comments written on them. Abercrombie was inundated with e-mails and a Christian group took it up. Apparently they are gone for now but this company keeps making suggestive clothing for little girls.

I've also posted a story on the Trade Bill in Congress.

RIM, I slept throught the speech but I really do love to hear the President speak. Peggy Noonan says that his speech in Berlin was truly great. I will post the Peggy Noonan piece in Op Ed soon.

I hear you about the pedophile stuff. In the first place I have a difficult time with the subject because I personally think that immediate death is the way to handle an adult who molests a child. RIM, thanks for the headsup on the History channel. I'd like to see that. I've been very interested in the Founders lately and would very much like to get our Founders section going here. It seems so important to me to look back at the times and circumstances of these men and try to apply their values to today. pRIMrose: Thanks for the welcome. For a little background I retired from the military in 1976 after serving 24 years. I registered as a Republican when I returned from serving in Korea - a funny story - they registered me as a Democrat without asking my preference - you have to understand that in southern WV, in those days, there were no Republicans. They were quite mad when I said I wanted to register as a Republican because they had to re-do all of the paperwork. For years I had no one to vote for in the primaries, only the general election. We presently live in a largely Democratic part of North Carolina, that by the way, always vote Republican in the general election. I had to retire the first of 2000 since my wife has lost her vision to diabetes. This gives me time to hit the internet and complain to the politicians, especially about the policies concerning illegal immigrants, but thats for another thread.

I have to laugh about the south. That's just the way I've heard it described politically. I've never lived in the south but both of my parents did. Being a Democrat was the same as being an American. I shudder to think what they would say about the Democrats of today!

I'm sorry to hear about your wife's loss of vision. It's good that you can be home with her.

The country really needs people who have time to pursue the issues and fight for what is right. I've been retired almost a year and I've really enjoyed getting more involved in political issues. I hope we'll see you around GOPUSA a lot. http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I just had such a good time. I got a recorded phone call (sponsored by county Democrats) from the mayor of the little burg I live in. The mayor is a Democrat. He called to congratulate himself on some awards our tiny town received and some of his perceived accomplishments. At the end of his recording I had the opportunity to leave him a message.

I've caught up on most of the news, and I'm off to find some scrapbooking sites to help with my board--I picked out a gazillion pictures--it took me forever cuz it's just so precious to look at all those baby pictures, and toddler pictures, and fourth grade pictures, yada yada yada!:1luvu: *I decided to make the board "scrapbook friendly" so I can take them off the board when we're done and put them in a scrapbook.

Good morning (technically, where I am, it is morning by 17 minutes). I just had to post here and let everyone know that I'm in a wonderful mood. I'm not sure if I'll be here on Monday, or much about this weekend (got some celebrating and remembering to do).

I just wanted to wish everyone a [size=6]HappyMemorialDay!

Memorial day means so much to me, that I honestly have a hard time keeping tears from coming out sometimes. I didn't actually get it until my grandpa died last year, but I get it now.

I am listening to the 2000 Olympic Opening Ceremonies Theme, and the words are so true when applied to our veterans. The song can be applied to anyone, since it never mentions one group of people specifically.
"You are the light, that shines in everyone.
The truth that's there for all to see.
You are the voice that speaks to everyone
You're the heroes we'd all like to be."

Later it proclaims:
"And all the world will join in celebration
And all the world will share the joy you bring.
And all the power, the hope and inspiration,
In all their glory, the naitons all will sing . .
Heroes live forever
Heroes Live Forever
Always, we'll remember
Heroes Live Forever."

On this Memorial Day, let us remember. As a favorite quote of mine goes (and please help me remember who said it, I forgot) "Old Soldiers never die. They simply fade away."

I think we'll all remember our heroes. And as long as we do, they cannot die. They will live forever in our memory, and in our national day of celebration/remembrance that is Memorial Day.
