This isn't a Bad Attitude - This Is REAL Life!

Let me tell you a story about being HOMELESS.

I left home at 15 years old (April 1973)
I have been homeless most of that time until May 1996.
Homeless people are there by choice.
Sure - there are the sick ones (who get a Federal disability check)
I have met people who were literally doctors of medicine, lawyers, aerospace engineers, and many other (so called) upper walks of life as well as the real and true poor.

The one thing in common with everyone was that their own PERSONAL choices put them there!
They were NOT (in most cases) a victim of society.
They chose the addictive freedom of minimal social barriers.

If you ask a panhandler "Why don't you get a job" - many of them will tell you point blank that panhandling IS their job!

. . . and thanks to liberals - it can be comfortable if you can stand yourself for doing it.

I used to sell pens - I hated to beg for things!

Over the many years that I was homeless - MANY people tried to help me get up on my feet. To the point that at one time (in less than 2-years) I had 3 different people let me buy houses from them (owner financed) where I had 2 rentals and a house to live in (in North Central Oklahoma) with NO money out of pocket!
Dumb me - I walked away from that! Just took off with no warning - went hitch hiking again! *

I finally settled down in May of 1996 (after friends and I were victims of a road rage shooting which one of our group was killed in).

I am, currently co-owner (49%) of a building maintenance business company (an S Corp). I don't make a lot but between my wife and I - liberals claim were are on the low end of RICH! http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif *(just under 100 grand in the past 12 months).

Now - some of you may wonder *"WHY IS HE TELLING US THIS?"

Because I am sick and tired of hearing how we need to SPEND MORE MONEY ON THE POOR HOMELESS PEOPLE!

We are paying OVER $200.00 a week in income tax and I can NOT afford to keep busting butt to make social leeches comfortable for another day!

Unlike many of them - I used to try to work and at least minimally earn what I got!

I know about all of the games and strategies they implement to make you suckers feel sorry for them!

EVERY major city has a place to shower up and get clean clothes - when you see one of them that are filthy - they are doing that to themselves because IF they were clean - you WON'T feel sorry for them and give them money!

Many of them think they are doing you a favor letting you relieve some of your guilt through generosity - aren't they so considerate? *http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

IF there are any conservative writers out here who would like to put a book in print about how it REALLY is for the homeless - let me know!
My Story Is For Sale!

Go, Guy!!! http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/yelclap.gif You, sir, have my respect. After living in San Fran, or as we called it Fairyland, I got so sick of panhandlers getting in your face demanding money, and the city fathers (?) saying it was their freedom of speech.

This is the best point I've heard in a while too. We work to support our families, not someone else's. I know there are truly needy out there, but I don't work in the worst prison in the federal system to support them either. If my taxes went down I'd probably donate to charity, but why should I right now? The libs already force me too with high taxes.

I stopped one time to offer a homeless panhandler a days work here near Raleigh NC - offered to pay him $10.00 an hour cash (no taxes) and lunch (temp service charges me $10.50 an hour) - all I got was a bad attitude and he kicked the new paint job on my truck and pulled a knife on me. *
http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif ...boy was he surprised when I introduced him to my protective side (a .45 cal Glock21 - NC unconcealed gun laws are wonderful! http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/usflag22.gif)

Sometimes you just can't help people! They want more that they earn.

Even in the Bible it says that farmers are not supposed to go harvest their field a second time. They aren't supposed to go back to even get a tool if it was forgotten there - it is supposed to be left for orphans and widows - in other words - EVEN THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO WORK FOR WHAT THEY ARE GIVEN! They weren't just handed a basket of crops for free - they had to go in the field and hand pick it themselves!

I think that homeless people need to go cut lawns, bushes, *and paint the homes of the elderly and handicapped at a rate affordable to people on a fixed income!

Let them learn to have dignity and self respect in what they do!

Here is a little proof of my point about the homeless - found it on another part of this forum - LOOK FOR: Panhandlers may have more cash than you do. (http://www.gopusa.com/cgi-bin/ib3/ikonboard.pl?act=ST; f=21;t=7509)

See what feeling sorry is all about?

That was pretty ballsy, JAGWAP. I like your style. http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/twothumbsup.gif

Maybe you should have offered him the standard $10.50, without the lunch.

You're not getting up soon after dealing with the business end of a .45, but still, I can't imagine explaining shooting a bum to the police. Some anti-gun public defender would run you through a shredder. But ya gotta do what ya gotta do... http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Hi JustaGuy http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wavey.gif

Yes, it is a very interesting story. Having worked all my life and still working part time, it's difficult to imagine people who refuse to do so. http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tqrolleyes.gif And mind you, I'm nowhere even near the "low end of rich" more like the high end of poor. But we make do and have plenty. Glad things worked out for you.

Thank You for the "Welcome"!

I am in Holly Springs!

My wife and I were both rather poor in our younger years!

However; a little creative income development adds up quick.

I like to say that "Once you make a living - start making money!"

Eight hours is NOT enough time to make money!

After your job is done for the day - do more!
... like plant a veggie garden so you can save $$ on the next years food bill.
... start a hobby that can make more $$ - I work in wood!
It saves some $$ in tables, shelves, book cases and stuff!
... always remember that saving money = making money!

What you don't spend - you have got left! http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rotate_on_head.gif

Absolutely! Couldn't agree more. I've always had little hobbies that make a few bucks now and then and even a little garden from time to time. Yep! A penny saved is a penny earned. http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif The hubs is also very handy and saves us much on all kinds of repairs and woodworking stuff. Now that we're retired, even tho I work part time, we have more time to do the creative stuff.

You have a great attitude. http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/twothumbsup.gif
