If I wear my cowboy boot with jeans do I tuck the jeans into into them of kept them out?

My Texan friends wont give me a straight answer

If you're a STRAIGHT male, donning western wear, you ALWAYS wear your jeans over the shaft of your boots. The ONLY time you will EVER see a cowboy wearing his jeans tucked into his boot shafts is if he is riding through thick mesquite without chaps...this is to keep the thorns of the mesquites from catching into your jeans and ripping them to shreads.
However, if you enjoy being the center of attention and watching people laugh, I suggest you wear your jeans tucked in. (I have seen a lot of Yanks trying to "fit-in" while wearing Roy Rogers shirts, bandana, and tucking their jeans in. No stormy My Texan friends that live in Chicago. That don't post on the board wont give me a straight answer.
