Rush and Sports

There aren’t many things that make me think “huh?” when it comes to politics or football. It’s when politics and football are combined, however, that I can’t help but utter that 3 letter word. Rush Limbaugh resigns his ESPN gig due to “racist” remarks. Huh?

What did Rush say? And was it something that was completely untrue, or unwarranted? Well, let’s take a look at it. All Limbaugh said was that McNabb was overrated, and that he was over-hyped because the NFL had a social concern about seeing black people succeed. Particularly, black quarterbacks.

How is this racist? At what point did Rush say, “Blacks are inferior to whites, and Donovan McNabb should not be getting the hype he is, because he is black.” Or, anything about the entire black race/color. He didn’t. Fact is, Rush’s comments were, at worst, simply wrong about McNabb being over-hyped. I personally think Donovan is good, but not great. I think Michael Vick is better. So is Chad Pennington.

Uh-oh . . . I just said Chad Pennington, a white QB, is better than McNabb. Obviously, I must be racist. The left would have you think so. That’s what it is all about, isn’t it? The left, and by that I mean primarily the Democratic Party, is so full of guilt over something they didn’t do (slavery ended long before any one of us was born), they don’t even conceive of saying a black person just might be incapable of doing something.

The fact of the matter is that Rush Limbaugh said something that was not racist, but was perceived as such because of the guilty white liberal mentality. However, Rush’s comments were qualified with his disclaimer that it was the defense of the Eagles that carried the team. After watching the Eagles play at Texas Stadium this past Sunday (Oct. 12) against the Dallas Cowboys (who won, making it 4 in a row), I must agree with Rush. The Cowboys managed to make McNabb look like he was a junior level waterboy most of the game. The defense of the Eagles, however, played an outstanding game. McNabb should have been able to get more going, but he couldn’t. So the hype he has, he should not. Rush never said a black quarterback could not succeed in the NFL, only that McNabb was overrated. I didn’t hear him say that Quincy Carter was over-rated. Of course, no one in his or her right mind would. But Michael Vick? No mention of him, either. It may be because of injury, and so since Vick isn’t playing, Rush didn’t bring him up. But no one has said Vick is overrated. The comments were about McNabb, and McNabb alone.

And the Left just can’t handle that. It is sad about Rush’s resignation. It is also sad to learn that he has an addiction to painkillers. I hope he can get rehabilitated and move on with his life, and he can put ESPN and the idiocy of this whole episode behind him.
