NEW YORK (GOPUSA News) -- Calling the current terrorist situation a scourge, high level Foreign Ministers within the United Nations Security Council called for all states to enter into the battle to combat international terrorism.
Chaired by Foreign Minister Dominique Galouszeau de Villepin of France, the call came in a declaration on the issue of combating terrorism that was adopted unanimously at a formal meeting of the Security Council. Ministers from 13 of the countries were in attendance and all Security Council members participated in the discussion. Members called on states to take a number of steps to fight terrorism.
The Security Council said that the role of its Counter-Terrorism Committee (CTC) must intensify its efforts to promote the implementation by U.N. Member States of all aspects of resolution 1383, adopted in the wake of the 9-11 attacks against the United States and called for a review of their reports and facilitating international assistance and cooperation.
Some of the measures endorsed included asking member states to assist each other in the prevention, investigation, prosecution and punishment of acts of terrorism, wherever they occur; and cooperating closely to implement fully the sanctions against terrorists and their associates, in particular al-Qaeda and the Taliban and their associates.
