WASHINGTON -- In what has turned out to be the bloodiest month of the war in Afghanistan, there is a growing chorus of critics who claim that the fight is no longer worth the cost. Though most of those saying so aren't paying the price, the toll was evident at Dover Air Force Base early Thursday morning as 21 flag-draped gunmetal transfer cases were conveyed solemnly from the ramp of an Air Force C-17.

Ten of those aboard -- seven U.S. Army soldiers and three special agents of the Drug Enforcement Administration -- were killed the night of Monday, Oct. 26, when their helicopter crashed during an "extract" from a successful raid mission in northwestern Badghis province. For the first time since becoming commander in chief, Barack Obama was there to greet the grieving families. He was accompanied by Attorney General Eric Holder and DEA acting Administrator Michele Leonhart. It was the right thing to do.

One of the troops killed was from a small town about 25 miles from here. The whole town is in shock.

So many of these young people are the brightest and the best and with a heart's desire to protect this country from its enemies.

This young man wanted to join military service ever since 9-11 when he was just a child and he paid the ultimate price.

God bless them all.

There is NO reason anyone should be dead due to the Afghanistan narco-economy. Well, other than the enemy.

There has got to be a way to destroy those poppy fields, and the labs, without putting OUR people in such deadly danger.

It's not like those fields are hidden in a jungle or in the middle of civilian populations. They are OUT IN THE OPEN.

NO one is harvesting in the dark of night. Ain't like there are nice stadium lights for a 24 hour operation.

I'd rather see bombs dropped from high altitudes on those fields of death, than keep seeing our mens' bodies in caskets off-loading at midnight.

Drop leaflets the day before warning the workers off, if we're SO worried about "civilians." then bomb the next night.

SOMETHING has to be done, NOW.

Kill the fields, kill the economy and our men live.

What is so difficult to understand about this?

Now, Liz Cheney was asked about this yesterday on radio by John Gibson at Fox News radio. He said, "Seventeen of the 18 families of the fallen denied Obama his photo-op at Dover," and here's what Liz Cheney said.

LIZ CHENEY: I don't know why he went to Dover. I think that clearly it is very important for a commander-in-chief whenever he can, in whatever way possible, to pay tribute to our fallen soldiers, our fallen military, folks, but I think, you know, what President Bush used to do was to do it without cameras, and I don't understand sort of showing up with the White House press pool with photographers and asking family members if he can take pictures. I mean, that's really hard for me to get my head around. I think it's an honorable and important thing to pay tribute, there's no greater sacrifice people make to the nation. It was a surprising way for the president to choose to do it. I would also point out that the best way to pay tribute to those who have sacrificed is to win the war.

What an absolutely great retort to the sight of Obama at Dover when he was shown greeting the casket of a fallen soldier!

I was unaware that 17 out of the 18 families refused Obama's request to view the caskets of thier loved ones on arrival at Dover from Afghanistan.

Seems like the media didn't report it as far as I could see which is no surprise and I certainly do not blame them since his dithering, I believe and his new 'rules of engagement' measures have directly affected the safety of these brave young men!

I was unaware that 17 out of the 18 families refused Obama's request Noticed that too, did you? First I heard of it was yesterday on Rush. Just the manner he went about this cheapened the whole thing. Nothing but a pure political photo op.

I kinda feel about o showing up at this "event," the same way I do about the Westboro Whackos at heroes' funerals....you don't go where you are not invited. This is not a time to be political. Or shove yer religious views down someone's throat.

This is an extremely PRIVATE, solemn, and heart breaking time for the families of these heroes. It isn't a photo op to boost poll numbers.

o has no shame, does he?

o has no shame, does he?
Not an iota, but we knew that. This goes beyond shameful and unfortunately is typical of his presidency. He will stoop to any means to further his power and his radical agenda.
