What's At Stake:

The Hotel Employees & Restaurant Employees International Union (HERE) has represented the entire U.S. workforce of Lufthansa's LSG Sky Chefs since 1969. The Union and the Company are currently in a contract dispute. After more than three years of negotiations, the two sides still have not come to an agreement. One of the remaining issues in bargaining is protections for immigrant workers. The Union has proposed language that would prevent LSG Sky Chefs from terminating workers who come forward to correct their name and social security number.

The Union's proposal would also require that workers who have been terminated for submitting a false name or social security number be rehired with full seniority if they are able to provide proper documentation within one year; workers who are able to provide proper documentation within two years would be rehired as a new employee. Many other union employers, including airport concession employers, have agreed to such language in their contracts. LSG Sky Chefs has rejected this proposal.

LSG Sky Chefs: End the Gag on Talk of the Immigrant Workers Freedom Ride!

Dear xxxxxxx,

LSG Sky Chefs, the world’s largest inflight catering company and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Lufthansa Airlines, issued a memo from its corporate office banning meetings about the Immigrant Workers Freedom Ride inside LSG kitchens. Although approximately 70% of LSG Sky Chefs workers are immigrants, the Company continues to treat their immigrant workers poorly and to disregard issues that are important to them. No other HERE employer has implemented such a policy regarding the Freedom Ride.

Please send LSG Sky Chefs and their parent company Lufthansa a message to tell them to respect immigrant workers and end the gag order on the Immigrant Workers Freedom Ride.
Send a letter to the following decision maker(s):
COO & Executive Board Member Gary Berndt & Randall Boyd
Below is the sample letter:

Subject: End the Gag on Talk of the Immigrant Workers Freedom Ride!

Dear [decision maker name automatically inserted here],

I am outraged that LSG Sky Chefs would actively oppose talk of the Immigrant Workers Freedom Ride among its workforce, which is predominately immigrants. This policy conveys a lack of respect for your workers and issues that are important to them.

I strongly urge you to show respect for your workers and reconsider your position on the Immigrant Workers Freedom Ride.
Sincerely,
xxxxxxxxxx

Thanks jonessa. I continue to loathe all unions, which have long since outlived their usefulness and place in American history. They are greasy all right, no doubt about that.....
