How will the GOP react to President Obama's pick to replace Justice David Souter on the U.S. Supreme Court? Who cares? It doesn't matter what Senate Republicans think of Sonia Sotomayor. The GOP does not have the votes to stop her. Only Democrats -- or Sotomayor herself -- can torpedo the admission of Sotomayor to the Big Bench.
The fascination with the GOP's response to Sotomayor illustrates that Democrats are desperate to make Republican criticism, not Sotomayor, the issue. It's true: Republicans can raise questions about Obama's nominee, but only Democratic answers will determine her fate. So far, they seem to be standing by Obama's preference for a justice with "empathy" -- probably because voters don't see empathy as a bad thing.

We already know based upon her previous decisions and admission from her own mouth - shw will view each case through a racial, sexist prism. Barring unforseen forclosures about her past the democrats will steamroller her through. Lets see what the hearings reveal and in the meantime reinstitute crouch and cover drills in our schools, looking at Korea and Iran, we're gonna need them.

To think that any person who is qualified to sit on the SCOTUS does not have preconceptions concerning matters which will come before the court is foolish. While I think that Sotomayor will rule from a more personal and less legal position on race, gender, etc., she did support the Bush administration in ruling the Government has the right to deny federal funding for abortions.
As noted in the article the Socialists are trying to make this all about GOP opposition rather than Judge Sotomayor. The GOP Senators will do themselves a huge disservice if any ad hominem attacks are leveled against Judge Sotomayor. During the committee hearings and the floor vote, the GOP should focus on the judicial philosophy and clearly distinguish between the Judge's philosophy, which at this point appears to be "social" rather than legal justice, and Conservative personal responsibility and equality before the law in all instances, and let the nomination go to the floor. Expose the ideology, juxtapose it with conservative principals and let it go.
Just as with Nancy Pelosi who I think can do the GOP the most good right where she is, very high profile and exposing the Socialist/Marxist/Social Justice agenda for all to see, having a Supreme Court Justice with these same tenets is the best way to expose Americans to the consequences of voting for Obama and his Party.

I agree wholeheartedly with the suggestions for how the GOP should proceed during the confirmation hearings. I sure hope this message makes it to the Senate floor. If there is anything to be gained here, it is exposing the truth before the votes are counted.

Agreeing with the concerns about the Sotomayor nomination, my issue is with the timing. There was no urgency to make the nomination this week except to take the focus off the Pelosi/CIA fight. I haven't heard a word about that all week, only the nomination.

Everything this administration does is orchestrated specifically to keep the American public nervous, off balance, apprehensive and yes, distracted from all the government "warts". The heat was getting a little too uncomfortable for "Nazi" Pelosi so she ran away to Shanghai and is now in China, sucking up to the people who own our debt and actually have the power to shut down the Dear Leader in North Korea (but won't).
This time, by unveiling the nomination of Sotomayor, Obama has stuck his foot in the pile of excrement again, only this time it doesn't seem to have anything to do with tax evasion (yet). He has signaled quite clearly that he is interested in minority (both racial and gender) quotas on the SCOTUS.
1. We don't need this sort of manipulation anywhere, it's an incentive killer. Why should anyone work hard to get anywhere if they have any (or all) of the three mentioned "points" as a leg up on their application and can be confident of their advantage. Conversely, why would anyone without any of the three mentioned "points" apply if they know they have no chance of being hired.
2. The Supreme Court, which has always been expected to be blind to race, ethnicity, and gender in the hearing of it's cases is the very last place that we need quotas of any kind!!

I agree. Obama's Senate seat is now apparently a Black seat; Hillary's seat is now a "Woman's" seat; and if the Progressives have their way, and should Sotomayor be confirmed, Sotomayor's seat on the Bench will be a "Racial/Gender" seat.
Whatever happened to just picking the "Best" person? Whatever happened to "Equal Opportunity" for all?

that would be impossible for the "america hater" bo bo da clown!!! it is just another way for him to tear us apart from within.
to him there would be no better person to do this than her and the rest of the gang he has surrounded himself by! of course he has finally gotten the heat off himself and pelousy and has turned heads away from looking really hard at his actions that he has tried to hide from everyone but a select few.
