Welcome to the weekend :gopusa: precinct!

OK, some scary stuff going on out there . . .

A serious flu epidemic in Mexico--no plans to closer border--60 dead in Mexico City--CDC says it's too late to contain--Possibility of it in a NYC Prep school--mutated from pigs, transferred to humans :yikes:

D.C. SCARE: CAPITOL BRIEFLY EVACUATED; WHITE HOUSE LOCKED DOWN...Obama 'briefly relocated'--Another small engine plane in restricted air space--"It was just a navigation mistake, the GPS went and the pilot got confused,"

Obama administration to release detainee abuse photos; CIA Agents 'Don't Believe They Have Cover Anymore,' WOW, and these same IDIOTS went bonkers when Valerie Plame was outted. "What a wonderful world." Who wants to be a CIA agent NOW?

Gore pleads for unity on climate, despite divide and Dems refuse to allow skeptic to testify--you know the ol' free speech thing that only applies to liberals.

Gingrich: Climate bill will punish Americans--if our power bill goes up one dollar more, we'll be completely broke. It's as high as our mortgage payment some months--ridiculous!!

The THREE AMIGOS: Heads of Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua declare capitalism 'threatens life on the planet,' oh, yeah--Cuba's got a really good thing going on there  Let's see Dumb, Dumber and Dumbest!

UN envoy: US must prosecute Bush lawyers--hmmm, maybe they should clean up their own house?

Fox showed some poll that said 24% of Republicans approve of Obama's "job" so far. People HAVE to be lying--they can't be Republican. Obama's first 100 days is next week--me thinks his job has been pathetic--the great hope has in fact sucked all the hope out of us, not to mention that poor woman who thought Obama was going to put gas in her car is still standing at the pump waiting.

Have a great weekend everybody!!

Good heavens! WHAT did pilots DO prior to the invention of GPS????? :yikes: :str:

This reminds me of the old Mission Impossible line: "If you are caught, the Agency will disavow any knowledge of your actions".

Good morning,

Did everyone decide to sleep in or are our members out enjoying some beautiful weather?

Coffee's on. I put some fresh strawberries in the lounge. They were picked fresh from a local farm.

That flu epidemc is really scary. I wonder which brand of flu it is. I am assuming it is gastro intestinal.

We just won't have a CIA anymore. I can't imagine anyone wanting to work for them. Then all the Congresscritters will be asking what went wrong after another attack.

I just don't agree that waterboarding is torture. They were talking about the limits that were adhered to. That included things like no actual session could be longer than 45 seconds. (I can still hold my breath for 90 seconds). They were limited to a certain number per week, per day, and per month.

Gingrich: Climate bill will punish Americans--if our power bill goes up one dollar more, we'll be completely broke. It's as high as our mortgage payment some months--ridiculous!!

I just watched Al Gore testifying before a Congressional committee and he says your household bill will only go up 30 cents per day. Of course he is using EPA stats that are wrong. They asked him about China and India and even they recognize that they can't afford it and they want to be reimbursed by the world to pay for reducing their carbon output.

Obama's first 100 days is next week--me thinks his job has been pathetic

Someone gave him an F- (minus) on TV last night.

Have a great day! BBL

It's a frustrating few days in my corner of Paradise...

Night before last, the computer started making grinding noises as I was about to check my e-nmail for the last time....then the screen went "pooof" and the computer just stopped. I stared at the blank screen for a minute, tried to turn the 'puter back on...nuttin'. I laid my head on my desk. sigh. It's not even MY 'puter, it's one of Guy's many machines. I almost reached for the phone to call him, then remembered, too late, he's had his nose in the wine bottle too long. SO, I called him at nine am. He can be rather erratic.....nevah know what his response is gonna be in such things...he was fine, and came over later in the day with yet another 'puter, and plugged it in. Needed support from Comcast, ok, but now I have a 'puter. I won't have the money to buy a brand new one for another two weeks, but buy one I will. He is capable of building one, but he's just tooo disorganized and I might get it around the middle of the century...

K's bro called me, she's coming to live with him. I asked him what can I do to help? "Pray for me and my fiancee'." I do NOT want her near me, and I told him so. He wasn't the least bit offended, "Deb, she's one scary chick, especially since she seems to see herself as absolutely faultless and doesn't consider her explosions as such, she's just expressing herself." He's gonna literally lock her in her room when she's not working or eating a meal. How long does he think that will last? "About 5 to 7 days."

I am just furious over michelle o's total disrespect of the White House and what it stands for. It used to be considered a goal for all children, "Even YOU can be President someday." NOW, it's "we got tired of the White House," a few months ago, when she and mr. o showed up to read to third graders. And NOW, "We sneak out," like it's some kinda low class, filthy prison. Who on earth would evah want to aspire to the White House? Is this the beginning of making POTUS a dictatorship cuz, "Who the heck wants to go THERE?! If someone wants to be potus for life, let him!?"

A serious flu epidemic in Mexico--no plans to close border--60 dead in Mexico City--CDC says it's too late to contain--Possibility of it in a NYC Prep school--mutated from pigs, transferred to humans Great, I spent a month in bed from the flu and now we got another heading our way and it isn't even flu season anymore. Close the borders? Surely you jest, we NEED to administer yet more free medical care to illegals. Maybe the strain is more deadly to US citizens, thus freeing up more jobs that illegals can work for less.

the great hope has in fact sucked all the hope out of us, not to mention that poor woman who thought Obama was going to put gas in her car is still standing at the pump waiting.Yup, that be Peggy Josephs, of Sarasota, FL. I realllyyy need to give that happy chick a call, see if she's homeless yet.

Gore pleads for unity on climate, despite divide and Dems refuse to allow skeptic to testify--you know the ol' free speech thing that only applies to liberals.Let's not have Big (and getting bigger)Al's feelings hurt. He might not get another Academy Award for his next opus, "Dammit, I'm right, and if I'm wrong, my feelings will be hurt," or "Only YOU can stop Global Warming."

The THREE AMIGOS: Heads of Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua declare capitalism 'threatens life on the planet,' oh, yeah--Cuba's got a really good thing going on there Let's see Dumb, Dumber and Dumbest! Anyone but me notice that in matters of evil capitalism, China is SILENT? In less than 20 years, China has gone from a poverty stricken country to people making money, buying cars and eating more than boiled rice?

Good morning everyone!

Thought I would throw some of my favorite words of wisdom out to you today and see if you have other quotes to add to them.

"A government big enough to give you everything you want is strong enough to take everything you have"...Thomas Jefferson

"When the debate is lost, slander becomes the tool of the loser"...Socrates

"I predict the future happiness for Americans if the can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under pretense of taking care of them"...Thomas Jefferson

"We are oppressed by a deadly fallacy. Socialism is the philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance and the gospel of envy. Unless we free our country while time remains from the perverse doctrines of Socialism, there can be no hope of recovery"...Winston Churchill

Now here is a quote that I detest and see if anyone has other pearls of wisdom by Obama like this:

I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction".

Have a nice day!

I just don't agree that waterboarding is torture. I agree JJ. We all know that if they didn't have waterboarding to blame they would have to find something else to complain about.

The coffee is a bit bitter today. I added a pinch of salt. I hope no one is on a salt free diet.

How could I forget my very favorite quotes from Ronald Reagan!! Here are just a few.

"Of the four wars in my lifetime, none came about because the U.S. was too strong".

"I wonder at times about what the Ten Commandments would have looked like if Moses had run them through the U.S. Congress".

"No arsenal, or no weapon in the arsenals of the world, is as formidable as the will and moral courage of free men and women".

"if we ever forget that we're one nation under God, then we will be a nation gone under".

"Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. If it stops moving, subsidize it".

"The nearest thing to eternal life we will ever see on this earth is a government program">

And this one is one of my favorites:
"Government is like a baby: An alimentary canal with a big appetite at one end and no sense of responsibility at the other".

Good morning everyone!

Well, with a little help from the den leader, I managed to get both kids where they belonged last night and on time too.

I have a similar situation today and again tomorrow. Oh well, somehow, things always seem to work out.

A serious flu epidemic in Mexico--no plans to closer border--60 dead in Mexico City--CDC says it's too late to contain--Possibility of it in a NYC Prep school--mutated from pigs, transferred to humans :yikes:We all need to pay close attention to this one. It seems to be spreading rapidly.

Obama administration to release detainee abuse photos; CIA Agents 'Don't Believe They Have Cover Anymore,' WOW, and these same IDIOTS went bonkers when Valerie Plame was outted. "What a wonderful world." Who wants to be a CIA agent NOW?
If I was working there, I'd be thinking of switching jobs.

The THREE AMIGOS: Heads of Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua declare capitalism 'threatens life on the planet,' oh, yeah--Cuba's got a really good thing going on there  Let's see Dumb, Dumber and Dumbest!Unfortunatel y, the leader of the USA and his minions believe the same thing.

Fox showed some poll that said 24% of Republicans approve of Obama's "job" so far. People HAVE to be lying--they can't be Republican. Rino's might vote that way, but no sane, clear thinking person would.

We have a beautiful start of the day but we are to be in a strong storm area this afternoon into the night.

I need to get ready for work but wanted to stop in here first.
I'll try to pop back in later tonight. (if we have power)

EdieJ

Hi all y'alls! I finally have a few minutes of 'puter time and thought I'd :pop: in to see how everyone is doing.

My poor blood pressure, everything I hear or read just sends it higher. I tried to tell everyone that The Obamination ran for POTUS for no other reason than to destroy us, but somehow the words fell on plugged ears. There are none so deaf ..., ya know?

Charie - I don't know if it's still available but when I was in HS we did a most beautiful version of The Battle Hymn of the Republic. It was arranged by Robert Shaw. (I'm talking late 60's/early 70's so I don't know where you'd look to find it, sorry.)

Lauren has a new baby half-brother, born Thursday. I haven't seen him yet; Icey now lives on a Amish farm about 20 miles away. We're going to go see him this afternoon to get some pictures. I'm so excited! I told Lauren last night, "Well, you're a Big Sister now, what do you think about that?" and her reply was "I don't think anything about that, where's my treat?!" :lol1:

Well, I've got to get outside and get some garden work done. Keep the faith and until the Demoncraps succeed in shutting down all the Conservative websites, I'll try to keep checking in from time to time.

Cheers!
Edie

Hi Edie. Good to see you. Don't be a stranger. You know you're always welcome at :gopusa:

I think our mixed chorus sang the Shaw version in school, too with a piano accompaniment. Being barbershop, there wouldn't be any instrumental accompaniment. All vocal. Threfore it would need an arrangement that fills the instrumental part with voices.

It's a blah day today. Drizzly and overcast. I saw :lightning: and heard thunder last night but didn't hear any hail that we were promised. That's OK, though. We don't have a garage.

I can't believe those yahoos are still pushing global warming. Besides Al Gore looking to make millions on selling carbon footprint swaps what does anyone else get out of it besides knowing that you sank the economy of the U.S. with all this crap. :shake:

Isn't Wednesday 100 days in office for the O? I'm wearing black as a sign of mourning. (my sister's idea) I wish I had a pin to wear that would say why. I guess I'll just have to wear my I (heart) the USA.

I woke up feeling really discouraged. Like Edie, everything I see, hear or read is just a horrible reminder of what is happening. I wish I could see a happy ending, but right now I'm having trouble with that.

Congratulations Edie!!! I need some babies to hold so bad (notice I didn't say "need some babies"--hold for a while and then you may take them back home :) that's what grandparents are all about!!). There's something so soothing, and you forget all of your troubles, when you can focus on how precious and what a wonderful gift from God that little baby in your arms is.

Gotta get to work!

OK, I saw Kristen this afternoon and her high School is REFUSING to allow the battle Hymn of the Republic. The Chorus is being forced to sing some lame song by Miley Cyrus called "Climb". All because ONE Parent out of 480 students said she didn't want a song with the "L" word (LORD) in it. So Kristen was thinking of rehearsing separately and then springing the Battle Hymn out at the last minute which might mean getting pulled down off the stage, or even refused her diploma, or God knows what else! The entire school is being held hostage by ONE parent! Even friends of Kristen's who are not Christians are on her side, because they can see that her Civil Right of Free Speech is being violated. Kristen was delighted that her cause was read on the air and that Col. Allen West took a stand for her. I told her the whole chorus should refuse to sing the stupid Miley Cyrus song. 480 vs 1. That ought to do it.

Here's the guy that was waterboarded.

It saved LA.

Supposedly he had to be waterboarded 183 times before he "Talked"

If he was REALLY being "tortured" it wouldn't have taken 183 tries.

Seems like he was just getting sick and tired of getting wet.

And he's still ALIVE!

Isn't torture supposed to HURT or something?

1. What will you miss about winter?************* ******

All the too old to be driving snowbirds that cause 60% of all the accidents in my town during "season." The birds that every year build a nest in my fireplace chimney and make a HUGE clatter for hours every day. I do love birds...the feathered ones, I mean.

2. What is your favorite thing you like to do in the spring?************* *********

Well, back in the MidWest, it was pulling all the dried debris off my perennial daisy and violet garden until the OG took a hand held propane torch to the little plants peaking out of the soil, cuz "I hate flowers, they're ugly." Then it became morel hunting and here, the seasons are not particularly defined!

3. How warm is too warm for you?************* high 90's.

Hanging with my Kid (who got home yesterday, GAWD, I love that child) and decorating where evah we decide to move (more on that later).

Neither of us evah really liked this house, it was the OG's choice and demand, so it was where we lived. I want to live where she and I choose, now.

My kids LOVED the Golden Girls. They always saw me as either Sophia or DimWit Rose. I wanted to be Blanche, the sexy one! RIP, Bea, you were one of the BEST.

I am SO disturbed about that painting of mr. o. I don't know what that artist is smoking, but I'll bet it's illegal as all get out. We should pay some small, non-muslim country to "hold" terrorists and "take care of 'em," if ya know what I mean. That way, it's outta our hands if the terrorists just kinda slip up and blurt out some info necessary to save American lives. Or have a private, under contract company, like a kinda Blackwater, to handle the prisoners. On private property. On a remote island in the Caribbean.....better yet...the Indian Ocean...

ok, some pollution and then shopping with Kid and looking at places to rent.

Spring
1. What will you miss about winter? I do enjoy the first few snow storms and the beauty it brings to our world.

2. What is your favorite thing you like to do in the spring? Hang up my coat, open the doors and windows, listen to children's laughter as they are playing, enjoy watching everything come to life again after the long winter and having more time to interact with Diamond and Blaze. Sorry, I couldn't pick just one. :lookaround:

3. How warm is too warm for you? With my meds, I find it isn't necessarily the temperature alone, but the sun with no breeze that quickly brings on sunstroke symptoms sending me to find shade or air conditioning. 65º in the sun with no breeze is too warm, while 95º with a gentle breeze is okay. Go figure????

4. Do you have plans for this summer? If so what? Lazing around the pool and camping are the two major things we do in the summer.

5. Are you going to plant a garden/flowers this years? If so what? Because of my sun problems, I don't do much gardening anymore but son and the kids do so we still have flowers and vegetables.

6. Do you see hummingbirds in your yard or around your apartment complex? Not too many but we do see a few every year.

7. What are your favorite Spring colors? I like them all.

8. Will you do “Spring Cleaning” at your house? I gave up spring and fall cleaning years ago and now, do what needs doing when it needs it.

9. How soon do you have to start mowing your yard ? Son did the first mowing on Friday.

Spring
1. What will you miss about winter?

In winter I don't have to worry about hurricanes.

2. What is your favorite thing you like to do in the spring?

Take long drives and look for signs of Spring. It seems like some leaves come out overnight.

3. How warm is too warm for you?

Depends on the breezes and the humidity.

4. Do you have plans for this summer? If so what?

Enjoy what ever I can depending on health.

5. Are you going to plant a garden/flowers this years? If so what?

Probably not. I don't have a green thumb and Joe isn't able. We used to have tomatoes, squash, cucumbers, lettuce, and lots of flowers.

6. Do you see hummingbirds in your yard or around your apartment complex?

Funny story about hummingbirds. I was sitting out by the pool one day with a flowered swim suit and this hummingbird came up looking for food. I told Joe but he didn't believe me. Next day I went to work and came home to find two feeders on the back porch. He had to admit I was right and we have enjoyed them every year since then until this year. When hummingbirds get scared they play dead and Joe actually got to pick one up and hold it until it was brave enough to just fly away. Made his day.

7. What are your favorite Spring colors?

Pastels. Esp. Robin's Egg Blue.

8. Will you do “Spring Cleaning” at your house?

I try to keep things done up through the year but I do go through the house and get rid of stuff we don't need or use.

9. How soon do you have to start mowing your yard ?

We get no break from mowing except in the winter we only mow to clean up the leaves and pine straw that collect.

Thanks for trivia, Candles. That was fun!

:HB: Stoney. Many happy Returns!

Hi Ya'll,

Am I blind? I didn't see any trivia except w/people's answers. But, that's ok--just curious.

I'm going to post some links in the tea party thread (http://www.gopusa.com/forum/showthread.php?p=525 822#post525822)--of the Tarp Song and one of Ray Stevens and one of the Dallas Tea Party if anyone wants to look.

Did anyone ever tell Laurie that the babies referred to were horses? I don't think they do much cuddling, LPara. :)

Did any of you apartment dwellers ever hear of the aerogarden for indoor growing? Here's a review of how they work, if you wish to look:
Experience with the Aerogarden (http://riograndevalley.cago ra.com/node/105474) If you look down in the comments, there's a link to a photo of one. Doesn't look like much of a garden, but what do I know?

Hope you all have a great day.
