I found the 9-11 transcripts interesting in respect to people who were directly involved in a life or death situation contacting those who were indirectly involved and asking advice on what they should do. What has happened that people have come to believe that it is better to follow the course of action set by others than by using our own judgement?

The liberal mind is not a terrible thing to waste. As a matter of fact, the quicker it is wasted, the sooner those dealing with reason can get on with their daily business of living their own lives without interference.

Charie ~ There are several ways to keep up to date on virus protection. I believe some of them are offered over the internet ~ McAffee in particular. But if you loaded McAffee from a program you purchased, it is usually only good for a year and you should run live updates even though they should be automatic. I do too on one hand, but there is another part of me that says that people need to remember what happened on 9/11. Some, including Democrat politicians, seem to have forgotten and also to have forgotten that it can happen again.
Wyatt, I think you make a good point. Do you think it had something to do with it being a work situation for them. People are used to being directed at work and feeling safe at work. If they had been tourists touring the towers would they have run out sooner?
RIM, I will have a diet donut please. I want one with diet chocolate icing. http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif
I posted an article about the Shiite bombing in War on Terror. It looks as though the trouble from this could just keep growing. http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif
It's a little bit scary to me that Janklow has apparently been pretty irresponsible for a long time yet he was seen as a serious challenger to Daschle. I just have to say that they seem to elect some strange folks in SD from both parties. It would be good to hear from someone who understands the political situation there. http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes2.gif
RIM, you are right about the virus checkers. Usually the updates on a program that comes with the computer are only good for 90 days. I renew my subscriptions to Nortons religiously and it's become a habit for me to click on manual update daily just to be sure. Nortons normally has updates on Wednesday but they issue new ones inbetween when there is an outbreak like SoBig or Blaster. http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mouse.gif Isn't this mouse icon cute? http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I for one am very happy that the Iraqi Police is stepping up some of its efforts, and not leting the entire burden fall on our soldiers. In fact we need to begin training them so that they can begin helping out even more.
did anyone else see Hannity & Colmes the other night when they had Geraldo Rivera on? he was saying that the media is concentrating to much on the negative and not enough on the good thats happening. He said that he witnessed an actual election, something they have never done before, with about 9 candidates.
People seem to forget, Iraq has been under a dictatorship for decades now, and before that they werent any better. We need to teach these people how to be free, it takes time. We have to build them up, not re-build, becouse they were never built in the first place.

Good morning all.
Geraldo at least tries to find something positive going on in Iraq where ABC wears blinders so that they can only see the dead Americans or the disgruntled soldier.
I may have lost an engine that I really liked. My daughter overheated the 3.5 in our 97 Intrepid. It still runs but it doesn’t sound too good. The poor old car has been back and forth across the country several times and up and down the western mountains. It was almost ready for recycling but I hate to see a machine abused. Now I have to decide what kind of Dodge to replace it with. We need at least two cars and a truck. My truck is older yet and little drops of its bodily fluid leak out from steam to stern. But I would still keep it if I didn’t need a new truck for a project that I have going. I need a new Dodge pick-up to help me promote a new product that I designed years ago and have decided to produce.

Terri: I don*t think this seeking approval is soley linked to the work place. It is taught from childhood. Seek approval of our parents. Seek approval of our teachers. Seek approval of our peers. I have seen people buy a piece of clothing that they admired, buy it, put it on and then ask, "How does this look on me?" If the answer comes back negative, you will likely see it at their next yard sale. These people involved with 9-11 appeared to me like someone who was drowning and using a cell phone to talk to someone they assumed was a life guard, Telling them they were drowning and being told to be sure and not lose the phone connection. I am in no way making light of the siruation but only how my mind works in relation to the workings of other minds.

I agree Wyatt that many people wait for others to tell them what to do and it is the wrong thing to do in some cases. But in some cases it is better to know which way to run before you run down a blocked stairway. In one of the towers a lot of people died above the fire because they didn’t know that there was an open stairway.
I guess I feel most for the people trapped in elevators.
All in all the whole thing is really hard for most people to grasp. Maybe a thousand people trapped above the fires, hundreds dead , others jumping out of the fire to the ground and hundreds of people going up to get them out when the first building collapsed.
The recollection of what these people went through before they died reminds me of a discussion that got me banned from the old TIMM/CNN boards. We were talking about the PANAM 109 bombing and someone said that I was being a little hard on the Arabs. I reminded them, in the most graph detail, that the experience of finding yourself out in the open at 35k feet going 500mph was not a good thing.
While I’m here I will rant about my favorite technology. These people died horrible deaths but the experience of being run over by an 18wheeler is no less horrific. With today technology we could reduce big truck traffic by two thirds and cut transportation costs by three froths if we would develop airships as long haul transportation vehicles. But the most valuable use of large airships could be as fire fighters. A 500 foot long airship equipped to fight tall building fires could have handled the WTC fires before the buildings fell. Other large airships should be fighting the forest fires around the country.

All right you guys, don't be eatin' all the donuts before I get a chance to dig in there. I have to start a diet on Monday so to get in practice I'll take a diet bismarck with diet sugar and diet raspberry jelly in it, please.
There was a news report on one of the TV channels late last night. It could've been the BBC on the local PBS station. It was horrible! Really graphic film footage of the aftermath of that explosion. Horribly injured people trying to crawl away and dead ones being carried out. Just terrible! I do hope that the sight of this and knowing who did it will focus the Iraqi people's minds on who the real bad guy is in this.
Something really strange on TMJ news reports yesterday, was that the newsreader kept saying (paraphrasing) "it's thought that the U.S. will be blamed for the explosion." http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/yikes.gif They repeated that all day. Finally, on the 6:00 news they stopped saying it. And I think that everyone should give me a whole bunch of money....but thinking it doesn't make it so!! Whatever happened to news reporting in this country? Speculation doesn't belong on a hard news program. Leave that to the editors and the columnists.

Charie, the news media was trying to encourage the Iraqis to blame us but they finally realized that Iraq doesn’t pay them much attention. But Hillary will be glad to blame GW for the explosion.
Yes, airships can be called dirigibles. But I can’t spell dirigible and it sounds like a foreign word. For fighting fires in the cities the vehicle would have a long boom that could inject the appropriate chemical, water or CO2 in the burning building or structure. It might even have an escape tube that could be put right through the side of a burning high-rise. High pressure air from the tube would clear out the smoke so that the victims could find the tube. In the case of the WTC the airship could have approached to within a hundred feet and dropped hoses to the ground to supplement its onboard water and chemical supplies. Able to deliver 500 gallons of water per minute along with foam or CO2, the water alone would have been able to keep the fire from taking the towers down. Another boom might deploy a net for jumpers. The most advance society in the Solar system is still fighting fires the same way the first person did when he got his fur pants on fire. We either pour water on it or hit at it. The way we fight forest fires, many set by the people who make their living fighting summer fires, is a joke. My airship could deploy a three hundred foot wide boom capable of pressures so high that it would strip the flammable material from the trees as it doused the fire.
In a simple house fire you could simply blow the fire out with a CO2 rich air mixture, followed by a dry suppressant that would prevent much of the damage that water causes in house fires.

GOOD AFTERNOON, YA'LL
Nice opening, Laurie--I'm going to have to write that big word down in order to remember it--sounds like a good one! *http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
GR, you are so brilliant--with all those fancy ideas, you should be rolling in money--do *you put these things on paper and get them all figured out in total http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif * *I bet your invention has something to do with oil wells, right ? * http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif
FlowerPower, you're not really on a diet, are you? * Of course, I've been on a see-food diet for a long time--I eat everything I see http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rofl.gif
As for releasing the phone calls, it was horrific to hear again, but I really think there are lots of people who need to be kept reminded of what happened on 9-11. * * It seems way too many have forgotten far too soon! * http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tqrolleyes.gif
Had a call from my German war bride (WW2) friend this morning and she says we seem to be taking lots of lessons from Hitler in all the things that are being banned http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/exclamation.gif * *I'm sure I've seen someone else write that in here, also. *http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/shake.gif
She also shared a couple of jokes with me, so I'm going to share them with ya'll--we all need to laugh a lot, nowadays, in my opinion. * *It fights depression and helps keep up our own spirits! *
Quote[/b] ]Three old couples were out in a boat that capsized and there was nobody to save them.
When they got to the pearly gates, they were met by St. Peter. * *As he checked his book, he told the first couple they couldn't get in--they loved money too much. *Even their name was Penney.
He went through the same procedure with the second one who had been a jeweler. * *He said you can't get in, all you thought about was making money--even your name is named after one--Ruby.
The third man looked at his wife and said, "Fanny, come on, we don't stand a chance."
Quote[/b] ]Three women were talking about their husbands and comparing their gifts from them. * The first woman said, "my husband bought me a $50,000 fur coat". * The second woman just said "hmph" * *The third woman said, isn't that nice?"
The second woman said her husband bought her a $100K diamone ring. * *The first woman just said "hmmm". * The third woman said "isn't that nice"!
So, not having said anything, the first two asked the 3rd what her husband had given her. * She said, "oh, he sent me to finishing school!" * The others said, "Really, what did you learn? "
She said, "we learned to say "isn't that nice" when someone said something about the things that had happened to them, instead of saying "b*ll sh*t!"
BTW, this lady was so proud to become an American citizen and she is extremely outspoken about what is going on in our country today, as you can probably tell from her statement above! * * She consistently says if people don't want to learn English, they shouldn't come to America in the first place http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/twothumbsup.gif
Terri, Congratulations on the new grandchild--Be sure and give the mother our blessings and that we are all hoping for *an easy birth and a healthy baby ! * http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
Ya'll keep http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/swing.gif ing and http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/happydance.gif ing! *

Good Evening All: Quote[/b] ]Der Alte, did you catch the double Ps from RIM?
Yeah, that must be what happened - she ran out of rain to send me, so she decided to send something else.
By the way, I may be late but I hope I'm in time to congratulate you and your daughter.
Listening to the talking heads on most of the news networks, I had to laugh at the way they report the US failure to guard the holy site - none of them bothered to mention the fact that the Iraqi's requested the Americans to stay away from the sites. I think FOX is the only network to get it right.
Anyone catch Tony Snow interviewing Bustamante. He asked him at least 4 times about his feelings about Mecha and never did get an answer. I know Bustamante was afraid of losing some of the hispanic vote, but I worry about him and others of his ilk. I really believe that there is a group that actively seeks to return the southwest to Mexico and you never hear anything from our elected officials. Go figure.
Have a great evening and drop by in the morning.

Quote[/b] ] I bet your invention has something to do with oil wells, right ?
I do have one little project that is designed to move drilling equipment in and out of ANWR during winter or summer. Right now we can only drill in the winter while the ground is hard frozen. My A.R.T.A.C. will move a whole drilling rig in and out of ANWR without leaving a mark on the ground. It may scare the caribou but they can eat weeds and grass for all I care.
The one I need a truck to promote I did design while I was working in the oil field deep in the South Texas wilderness, but it will be of great value to people from all walks of life and save us all fuel.
Bustamante is the worst thing that can happen to CA or this country. It is just inconceivable to me that any person who has ever been to Mexico would want to turn any part of the USA back to be part of that garbage bump.
The idea of using airships for fire fighting is pretty much my own idea and I have been trying to get US companies interested in building airships but it looks like we may have to go to Germany to get what we need. And an airship could knock down a pretty large bio or chemical cloud before it has time to spread for miles. Then it can clean up the effected area much quicker than a bunch of guys with brushes. An airship patrolling the largest city would on the scene in minutes able to apply neutralizing agents to a path 500 feet wide. Simple bleach is effective against many bio and chemical agents and will not harm the environment.

Good Evening Y'all! Heelo to everyone who checked in today, and welcome to any new members we have. Terri, congrats on the new grandson. I am sure it must be easier than raising one's own children. *http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif Had a relatively quiet day, but brought on some of my own puter headaches this fine afternoon. Meryl has been wanting to get the boys set up on the Internet, as they each have their own desktop PC. Besides which, David needs the net for homework, and I am tired of his being on mine all the time. *http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif So we picked up a D-Link Wireless Broadband Router today, with two wireless AirPlus Extreme G PCI Adapters (one for each of their computers). I finally got my own computer hardwired in via the cable, and working (after only a tiny call to tech support when I couldn't hook up to the Internet going through the Router). Tonight, I installed the hardware Adapter into Mitchell's computer, but now it won't configure into his computer, even though it is showing up as having been successfully installed. http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tqrolleyes.gif I am sure it is easier to fix than it seems. Tomorrow is another day.....
Sold popcorn with both Mitchell and David in the 'hood today. Sales are way down, and I am trying to figure out why. It could be because of all the negative press/publicity the Scouts have been getting lately for maintaining their morals. It could be because of the economy, or high gas prices, or that people didn't particularly like all the popcorn they got last year (or in some cases, still didn't use it up! ). It is probably a bit of all of the above, but about half of the people who normally buy some still did, even on our own street. *http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif *I guess I will find out a week from Monday if other scouts are running across the same thing. I don't mind going back to houses when people aren't home, but we have been getting lots of "no thank you we're not interested" responses from those who are home. It is just not typical of my neighborhood, where people will buy anything for a good cause. Still, if the boys just need to go to more houses to get the same sales, then that's what they/we will do. Their goal is to sell $1000 apiece of product, which will pay for a week of Boy Scout summer camp each. *http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/twothumbsup.gif

Floridaguy, I did the WiFi thing a few weeks ago so that my laptop and desktop can share the same broadband connection. It works great now but it was a huge hassle and I had to have a lot of tech support help. If I can help you, I'm willing but there are probably people here who know more. I printed out all the settings so that I would know what to do if I have to do it again but it also depends on your ISP. My desktop is hardwired in and it was hard to setup. There was nothing to the laptop. Since it has XP it was just a matter of turning it on and selecting the network. http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif very http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif

The son caught a 5-7 lb. catfish and I caught 4 perch in the 5-7 ounce category http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif The Hub didn't even get a http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mosquito.gif bite. Son also got a fair sized Northern pike but it was just a little too short. We were on the lake for about 6 hours and I think I'm suffering from a bad case of terminal flat butt. Or wait, maybe you can't die from that, it just feels as though you might!
We rented a boat and motor at a little town west of us. I was surprised that they still had boats available, but they did. The town sure was full of people and cars, though. Lots of Illinois license plates. I think people around here just swap places on these weekends. People from Illinois come here and people from here go another 100-200 miles further north. I'm wondering where the people on the south shore of Lake Superior go. Hmm-m-m.
Anyhow, we won't be inviting the neighbors in for a fish fry.
I'm so http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sleepy.gif , that I'm going to turn in early tonight. I had so much sunblocker on that I look more as though I sat in a walk-in cooler all day instead of out in the http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sun1.gif
Hope you all had a nice day. We're due for about 3 more just like today. In the low 70s and with a few clouds just to give you http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sunbrella.gif now and then. Wonderful day! Except for the container of dead leeches. http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/barf.gif
See you all tomorrow.
