Of all the smears listed in the new DHS warning about “right-wing extremism,” none are more dastardly and despicable than the insinuation that returning military veterans represent a security threat to the nation they willingly served. The Commander of the American Legion has sent the following letter to DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano explaining to her that military veterans are not the enemy:
Secretary Janet Napolitano
Department of Homeland Security
U.S. Department of Homeland Security
Washington, DC 20528
April 13, 2009
Dear Secretary Napolitano,
On behalf of the 2.6 million-member American Legion, I am stating my concern about your April 7 report, “Rightwing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence and Recruitment.”

I join in the demand for napolitano's apology and raise it to include her RESIGNATION! Not only did her memo single out returning veterans who have served their country proudly, but also sincere people who are pro-life, pro-Constitution, pro-Bill of Rights, pro-America, and against those who are invading our country and breaking its laws.
Woe unto them who call good evil and evil, good.

Apology be damned. This biased, incompetent biddy holds our military and veterans in utter contempt. Resign Napolitano, resign now!

These liberals love to bask in the freedoms paid for by the lives of our American Soldiers. Liberals are not beholden to the sacrifice given because they do not understand how a man is willing to give his life for the great good. Liberals forget that this sacrifice is what gives them the opportunity to defame the American name.
An apology would be hollow because it would be an empty gesture from a remorseless politician. A resignation would be impossible because that would require Napolitano to have the moral credit to admit wrong and do what is best for the country rather than herself.
Military service should be a pre-requisite to ALL organizations that involve military. Especially the Commander-in-Chief. The need for apologies would be moot.

While I share the contempt & outrage of everyone here at Napolitano's labelling of veterans as potential terrorists, at the same time, the American Legion endorsed Obama for president! THAT action shocked me to the very depths of my being. That a national organization of military veterans, of which my dad had once been a state vice commander (MN), which endorse a presidential candidate who so clearly was anti-veteran, anti-civil liberties--what were they thinking?????
And, now they're "outraged" at the acts of one of his cabinet members? What did they expect? Were they as duped as the rest of the country seems to be??
I come from a military family, & so Napolitano's comments especially angered me. I was always very proud of my dad's involvement & his accomplishments in the American Legion. There are many older veterans "turning over in their graves" because of the betrayal of this country by some veterans when they voted for Obama. Why did they do this when they had a military hero in John McCain for whom to vote??

I hate to say this folks but this Administration is composed of some real agenda driven left wing nuts and Napolitano is just one example. We as Americans are being set up for a kick'em out or get kicked situation and Real republicans had better get off their duffs and join in the fray, it is going to get down and dirty.

I agree that Napolitano should, at the very least, apologize for her ignorant, idiotic comments, and I would join the Legion's Commander in demanding that apology, except that I also seem to remember the Legion endorsing Obama. While it is informative and entertaining to see the lefty Administration being so "transparent" in broadcasting how afraid of the voters they actually are, I think if anyone needs to apologize - or resign - over this issue, it would be the National Commander of the American Legion.
Visit the American Legion website: http://www.legion.org/homepage.php
Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on "contact us" - you can send an email directly to the National Commander's office. Let him know how disappointed you are in his incompetent hypocrisy.

the American Legion endorsed Obama for president!
there is much to be apologized for, but this isn't one of them in my opinion!! the legion endorsed these people so they asked for what they are getting!!! the worm has turned and maybe they will learn a lesson after all of this and NOT ENDORSE ANOTHER unproven idiot that is running for office!
this just means the chickens have come home to roost and the legion doesn't like what they got.

I was shocked to learn that the American Legion endorsed Obama for President. What was their reasoning I would like to know, over a war hero like John McCain?
This is the kind of backstabbing treatment they get for endorsing Obama? I am just beginning to realize the magnitude of how the public was duped into believing Obama who talks like any other politician out both sides of his mouth!

the American Legion endorsed Obama for president! It is things like this that convince me in my heart that there were more sinister forces at work than just politics as usual. And this latest memo from HSA proves it.

Secretary Napalitano is especially cruel. She is hitting veterans right where we are vulnerable, in that area of our hearts where we keep our love for our country and our fellow countrymen. She has no idea what it is like to sacrifice anything, much less her life, for someone else. I don't know, she may have heard the platitude, "Freedom is not free" but it holds no meaning for her.

So she gives a half-hearted half-a$$ed "apology" to the vets today AND then takes it all back by bringing up Timothy McVeigh.
What a beyotch. I DEMAND she resign. I recommend EVERYBODY write their Congrssmen and Demand her resignation IMMIDIATELY.

McVeigh was paling around with ex-Iraq soldiers. He was not right wing he was a gun for hire.

Yes, I realize that. But the MYTH about McVeigh is that he was a Right Wing Conservative Militia type. And the left has been capitalizing on that ever since.

This woman has no business being where she is, When there was a hostage situation in our prisons where a femal and male where taken hostage she did nothing even when the officer was being raped and you could hear her screaming, even when we had a clear shot to take the piece of trash out she refused then to add insult to injury she allowed a "leak" that the officer was in a "relationship" the FBI left and told her not to contact them again. This is what kind of person who is at the top of Homeland security. I have never liked this woman not just because of this but because of many other things she has done in my state, Like Hiring her best buddy to run our prisons (can anyone say conflict of interest?) I could go on and on but to say the least this woman would not know what professional conduct was if you hit her in the face with it. Now she makes her cheap shots at our military with the full support of our president.
