KABUL (Reuters) – Afghanistan's Taliban on Tuesday turned down as illogical U.S. President Barack Obama's bid to reach out to moderate elements of the insurgents, saying the exit of foreign troops was the only solution for ending the war.

Obama, in an interview with the New York Times, expressed an openness to adapting tactics in Afghanistan that had been used in Iraq to reach out to moderate elements there.

"This does not require any response or reaction for this is illogical," Qari Mohammad Yousuf, a purported spokesman for the insurgent group, told Reuters when asked if its top leader Mullah Mohammad Omar would make any comment about Obama's proposal.

"The Taliban are united, have one leader, one aim, one policy...I do not know why they are talking about moderate Taliban and what it means?,"

"If it means those who are not fighting and are sitting in their homes, then talking to them is meaningless. This really is surprising the Taliban."

'Illogical?' It takes the Taliban to figure this out?

Obama just thought he could hold hands and sing Kumbaya with the terrorists and everything would be wonderful. How naive. These people want the destruction of Isreal and the west. They place very little value on life and are willing to die for their cause. Diplomacy does not work. It merely makes us look weak and open to attack. They will have no respect for our new president if he governs from a position that they view as weak.

Perhaps o needs to send them 25 DVDs to soften them up so they'll feel more inclined to sit down and have a friendly chat to resolve our differences.

o still doesn't understand, YOU CAN'T BARGAIN WITH TERRORISTS THAT WANT US DEAD and don't have value for their own lives!!!

Oh good grief!!! There are no moderate "elements" within the Taliban. To anyone who ever thought that BO is intelligent, this ought to be the death knell to that idea. The man's an idiot!!

"Afghanistan's Taliban on Tuesday turned down as illogical U.S. President Barack Obama's bid to reach out to moderate elements..." How Vulcan of them!
Score another strikeout for Obama and SoS Clinton. I wonder when these fools will realize you cannot negotiate with terrorists or reason with evil? At best these clumsy, amateurish blunders make America look weak and foolish, at worst put our nation in grave danger.

This is so funny! The most whacked out group in the world is calling President Obama illogical! I'll bet that hurt his elitist feelings (if he has any!)

Texanna, it might hurt his feelings if he ever watched the news, but he apparently doesn't waste his time. (Well, I don't since the Reich took over the media.)

the exit of foreign troops was the only solution for ending the war.

Yup, that would be one way to end a war... just stop fighting... NOT! You can run away, duck, and cover, but the terrorists aren't going to say, "Okay, they went home, so we'll stop fighting them." Duh.. they will come, loaded for bear, just like they have been doing all along. Just because the media doesn't report the attacks and attempted attacks on page one, doesn't mean they don't happen. It won't be long now.

Once we stop taking it TO them and diminishing their numbers, they are going to rise up and slaughter us.

"This does not require any response or reaction for this is illogical," Hey guy, thanks for speaking up. Barry lends far more creedence to what the Taliban says than he does Joe Average American.
