Bush Pardons Man Who Helped Israel During Wartime

Tue Dec 23, 5:05 PM EST

In a gesture of forgiveness for an American considered a hero in Israel, President George W. Bush on Tuesday granted a pardon posthumously to a man who broke the law to supply aircraft to Jews fighting in Israel's 1948 war of independence.
Charles Winters was listed in a batch of 19 pardons and one commutation that Bush issued before leaving for Camp David to spend the holidays. No high-profile lawbreakers were on the list.
In the summer of 1948, Winters, a non-Jewish Miami businessman who exported produce, worked with others to transfer two converted B-17 "Flying Fortresses" to Israel's defense forces. He personally flew one of the aircraft from Miami to Czechoslovakia, where that plane and a third B-17 were retrofitted for use as bombers.

But guess who he did NOT pardon! I'm really, really, really disappointed in the outgoing President. And that's understated.

Three names NOT on the list. BorderPatrol Agents Ramos and Compean and Scooter Libby.

It is easy to pardon dead folks.

I have pardoned my dead Mother in law. It has helped ME more than it does HER.

In another article I read about the pardons, he pardoned a man who brought illegals across the border.

It just seems like a terrible miscarriage of justice when someone who commits a crime is pardoned, yet two men trying to uphold the law aren't, and Libby isn't pardoned for having a faulty memory.

Now that I know what "compassionate convervativism" is, I'm not too keen on it. It seems it just applies to illegals and giving them amnesty.

It's too late for a Christmas gift for those men and their families, but I am still hoping and praying he does the right thing before he leaves office.

I say again, IF there are any big name pardons they will come at the very end.

I hope he includes the female policeman that turned her attack dog the illegal that was escaping and had committed burglary in his pardons. I am sympathetic toward law enforcers that were trying to do their job.

Just remember that I don't have any particular faith that we will get the pardons we want. That's why I capitalized the word IF.

But big ones are always at the end so there is still hope.

Btw, Libby has not asked for a pardon so far.

Libby has not asked for a pardon so far.

Does the President usually only pardon those who submit a formal request? Maybe Libby doesn't think he needs to ask. Personally, from what little I actually know about that case, it seems to me like another miscarriage of justice.

Don't use all these names in the same sentence. Ramos and Compean deserve to be out of jail. Libby is a criminal. Think of how pissed you were over Cisneros. You shouldn't seek to others level. Real criminals should serve real jail time.
